Your thoughts on cruise options out of NOLA? I would like to take the wife on a vacation, and a Carnival cruise crossed my mind. I am a little hesitant to book because I remember seeing one of their boats in the Bahamas, (when I was on a Disney Cruise), and it looked like a floating dump!

Carnival is typically known as the ghetto cruise line.

the Dream is the best one of the two Carnival. when are you planning on going? there is a NcL and a Royal Caribbean vessel here until the spring as well.

Carnival is cheap. Go Norwegian or Royal Caribbean for nicer.

The only issue is that those two are here only in the winter

I am currently looking at June or Thanksgiving. I had not given NCL much thought, but clearly after the first few responses, I need need to check them out.

At least I'm not stuck in Wal-Mart. Wal-mart gets the nod in this matchup.

Went Carnival dream about 4 weeks ago out of New Orleans. Never been on Carnival before. Been on Royal Carribean. Really thought the Dream was pretty good. Dinner food was really good and enjoyed my time. Would go on this ship again.

I could go on a Carnival cruise with my wife and have a great time. I'd be disappointed in the food and possibly revolted by some of the other things that I'd see while people people watching, but I could still have a good time.

The point is, if you have limited vacation/money/time etc and Carnival is your most fitting option, by all means, go sit by the pool, hot tub or beach and have a great time.

It's just not where I choose to spend my money & vacation time.

This

Frick a cruise unless I'm old and it is inland in Europe.

1. Get on a jet to MIA
2. Connect at MIA to another flight into the Caribbean
3. Get off jet at destination
4. Profit

(Return home is the reverse order of steps 1 & 2.)

It's just the biggest with more rooms. The pool deck/main deck layout is terrible.

Eta: I don't get all the hate for carnival on here. The two times I went on one, I had a blast in 2007 and 2014. Both were in May though and mostly senior trippers were on the boat. Maybe that had something to do with it. I only saw a handful of trashy people on it the whole week.

Just got off a Cruise. Carnival gets a bad rap on here but has a lot more to do than Norweigen and the food is good too. Want more of an upper crust feel? Get a suite or a Balcony above deck 10 and you will be isolated in the Spa and Serenity area.
