Wife and I are going up tomorrow evening for our 10th Anniversary. Price lined a hotel and got the Marriott by the Convention Center... Knowing we won't feel like getting to gussied up, and that adventurous cuisine is totally lost on her... What are some suggestions for a casual but fun place to eat with good food and drinks?Don't mind driving a little ways from the hotel, so uptown, CBD, Quarter, etc... Are all in play. TIA!

I don't know how she defines adventurous, but Peche and Cochon are in the area. These are mentioned in pretty much every thread

Luke is also not very far from your hotel, and I think the food is great. Always loud and vibrant in there.

Sylvain in the Quarter is pretty casual, and has a nice little bar vibe at night. Super dark though. Not sure if you care about lighting.

The one meal I had at The Franklin in the Marigny was fantastic, the cocktails were even better, and it was a very funky atmosphere. Also dark and candlelit. I thought the atmosphere was so cool.

Everyone seems to love Bouligny Tavern and La Petite Grocery, which are both Uptown.

I had a pretty fantastic last minute meal at NOLA in the Quarter this weekend. It is an Emeril restaurant.
Wasn't cheap, but we weren't exactly drinking cheap either.
I'm not sure if by casual, you're looking for low prices or just not wanting to dress up.

Cochon or La Boca are within easy walking distance.

Given that it is an Anniversary you might want to at least treat her to a sit-down with some semblance of romantic dining.

I would suggest La Boca or Eleven 79.

Good chow, reasonably romantic without requiring full dress up and nothing too adventurous on the food side but solid none the less.

This is what I was thinking as well. Mostly why I mentioned several dimly lit places

We've been to Cochon, Peche and La Boca. Really enjoyed all three, anywhere with a hangar/skirt steak/steak frite on the menu is cool with her.

The Franklin looks really cool! That might work. Keep the suggestions coming!

Go to La Boca then. I love that cut of steak and the one at La Boca is the best I have ever had.

If you go, you must consider trying the Grilled Sweetbreads with Braised Oxtail dish. So fantastic.

Drive down Esplanade to Cafe Degas. They do a great hanger steak.

Appetizer special, which was Bone Marrow topped with Crab Meat
Roasted Beet Salad
New York Strip

All was very good. I had only ever been there one other time, and it was several years ago during lunch.

During that time, it was talked about a lot on here, but I haven't seen someone mention that place on this website in a long time.

I love me some NOLA. Funny thing happened last year.

I was in town for a meeting and one of the guys from up north had read about it and was determined to go. This comes out at Happy Hour on a Friday after all day meetings. Something was happening in town (I can't remember what) and I just knew it was going to be packed. Sure enough, our party of eight gets there and it is a shitshow outside. We work our way up to the desk and I give them my best "I am from here, any way you can slip us in?" bit. Hostess nicely says there isn't a chance. My business buddy makes eye contact with the manager in a suit standing behind the hostess and says: "If Matthew McConaughey walks in right now, would you have a table for him?" (we had been discussing True Detective) and Manager says probably. Out of nowhere this guy slaps a hundred on the counter and goes "My name is Matthew." Manager laughed, pocketed the $100 and sat us a few minutes later. It was one of the coolest out of the blue moves I have ever seen someone pull.
