Axioms of Recruiting (in LA)

1) No single recruit is ever going to make or break a recruiting class.
There is no need for consternation when we miss-out on a recruit. Why so? Because when you recruit at the level we do you can absorb a lot of misses. We ‘missed’ on more prospects in ’14 than I can ever recall. No doubt, some would have been great to have (ex. CRob). But we’ll have a good LT next year and the next and so on. Speedy Noil is a phenomenal talent. But we have an abundance of skill position players. We would have to miss in double-digit numbers with no concurrent backup plan before a recruiting “miss” is going to hurt in terms of wins/losses.
We may miss out on Shea, Willie Allen, etc. Wished they would choose P&G. If not, whoopty-doo. They will be Tiger bait and we’ll go on to some other great player.
2) LA produces more quality prospects than we can sign.
I don’t know if it was always this way but it is now. LA produces more SEC quality talent than we can sign. LA has become a mini-FL. Some of those will go to our conference competitors. They will find their niche, see the field early, and will do well – even against us. It’s gonna happen. It doesn’t mean our staff is failing.
3) Recruiting will always have some last minute drama. And it will usually entail high-profile recruits – some of whom we really want. It comes with the recruiting territory. Some are trolling, some are drama-queens, some just enjoying the moment, some just unsure, etc.
4) Early departures hurt lots more than recruiting misses.
5) Recruiting can always get better. It’s like fishing, Even if you limit out, you could have limited-out with bigger fish. IMO, the most important thing we can do to improve recruiting is generate some fresh buzz.
6) Recruiting is not a science. We will whiff on occasion (Chucky Hunter is projected as mid-rd DT. We chose Mickey Johnson who transferred out for his Sr. season.). The same thing happens in the NFL draft.

I might add another:
Missing on a future star hurts, but signing a dud hurts even more!
Yet another:
Perception is important. Two prospects of equal promise, one in-state and one out-of-state, sign the in-state player.
Yet another:
Two prospects of equal promise, since there is more risk with a prospect from out-of-state--homesickness, not blending in, just to name two risks--sign the local player.

In-state that is used to the climate vs out of state who doesn't know real humidity.
Sign the instate.
Sign the instate.

Are you saying it doesn't matter that Peyton didn't go to LSU? Are you saying Kevin Faulk didn't make that recruiting class, and thus have a huge effect on following classes? You can't miss out on several top 10 players in your state, especially when they go to rivals, and expect to be the best team. (I'm not saying the ranked top 10 players.) All those points are fine if you are okay with being 5th best or 2nd best. Maybe we don't get crushed by arkansas if we have some of those big names that went elsewhere. We aren't going to out coach a lot of teams; it stands to reason we have to out talent them if we want to be the best. Some people aren't truly concerned about being the best.

See your points but the NFL draft and early departures stunted last season more than recruiting misses.
Let's look at the big instate misses(those are the only real misses. OOS kids can t be relied on and be considered misses IMO. Tony Brown maybe because he was always considered a lean) that would've been on last years team
Landon Collins-a miss but we were fine at S during his 3 years. None of our losses were attributed to bad S play alone. The early season losses last year were mostly because the entire defense was not there yet.
Cam Robinson-LT wasn't an issue last season and shouldn't be this season. Maybe in 16 but that would only be 1 year since Cam will be gone after his Jr year. So maybe a 1 year loss overall. Not program crippling
Speedy Noil-when missing in wr cripples LSU then it will be the first time since Saban woke up the program. We are loaded at wr and will be throughout Noils career. Could he help? Sure but him being or not being in the team isn't gonna be the difference between success or failure.
Gerald Willis-the only one that could've made a huge impact last year but he wasn't great for UF and the fact is we are better off without his cancer in the locker room. If he weren't an idiot then maybe he could be someone that hurts by not landing him but in reality he did us a favor by not coming to LSU.
Feel free to name any other kid considered misses and I'll break down why missing in them had no effect on our success or lack thereof. Our program has been crippled(according to expectations only. Its not like we are Vandy level bad)by bad qb play and development, overall inept offensive scheme and imagination and crippling early defections to the NFL. Missing on a small number of major recruits had nothing to do with it. The players we had/have are good enough to win national titles. In some cases they are just too young and inexperienced and in others not helped by the offensive coaching. Our talent level isn't the problem. These misses are much bigger perceptionally and emotionally to most fans and alike then in reality. That stuff is in peoples heads. Until we start missing kids in droves, recruiting and talent is not our issue.

#2 will apply to next year at DT. Especially if we get Ed Oliver from Tx and i think we will. I just hope we get the right players. There will be meat left on the bone for the buzzards.

of course this is easy to say, but I would love to see the response to this "axiom" had fournette not committed to LSU.

But to have a championship team you always need that X factor. That on player on the O and the D that stands out as pure beast!
To have a top ten team... yeah now single recruit is going to keep you out of a really good season if you recruited strong despite that miss.

Any major instate recruit signed weakens the SEC West foe vying for his signiture.

Better QB play will validate the OP

No the OP is saying stop melting like a bunch of little crybabies over a few recruits, and here's the point you negative douchebags can't understand, we have no control of where they go, no matter how much we want them.
Concentrate more on the ones we do have, and celebrate them, make them feel welcome and support them.
You complain here constantly and act like you have the answers, your negative comments are endless, when in reality, you probably have trouble controlling your own pathetic life and want to spread that misery to everyone here.

I agree with this except when it comes to a home run QB recruit.

Early departures hurt lots more than recruiting misses.
Oh, and great post.
