Watching her performance at Woodstock tonight. Too much smoke and whiskey. Virtually no lyrics, just lots of screaming and screeching. I'm not sure why she's considered such a great artist...

Listen to some of the Cheap Thrills album. If you don't like that, you just don't like the lady. But to call her a hack? Holy shite, man.

Anyway, here's a cut off CT, helluva fine record:

Faced with a ten-hour wait after arriving at the backstage area, she shot heroin[5][6] with Caserta and was drinking alcohol, so by the time she hit the stage, she was "three sheets to the wind".[2] Joplin took the stage following Creedence Clearwater Revival. On stage her voice became slightly hoarse and wheezy and she found it hard to dance.

her performance was also at 12-2am. She was blitzd

She fit the image of the scene. She blew people away simply by being a woman and acting like that. The power of her voice, the fact that she didn't give a frick, etc.

How often do you base an artist's hack status off of one performance?

Monterrey Pop Festival ---> Big Brother and the Holding Company - Ball and Chain

If you'd have started here instead, you'd probably think otherwise.

I don't like her music, but a hack? Not even close.

grew up in the 60s and remember "piece of my heart" coming out. liked it, but otherwise, always thought she was overrated.
