After ten seasons, does anyone really think Les would have taken a different approach had the external circumstances been 'normal'? I don't. He would have still slowed the game down (which is by no means all bad).
Slowed the game down? Sure. but does anyone, even with 20/20 hindsight think slowing it down was why LSU's guys ran out of gas that night? The miracle wasn't TENN's comeback...it was that LSU had enough in the tank that night to even jump out to that lead. That crowd willed the guys to that point...it just could not be sustained.

And it ought to be mentioned that the UTenn team finished 5-6 (I think), had to fly to Red Stick on game day and play in an environment that many will rank as sauna-like. It wasn't just us who had unusual circumstances to deal with.
Equating having to fly in on gameday to what LSU's team had gone through the weeks leading up to that game (for frick's sake JaMarcus Russell had Fats Domino sleeping on his damn coach) is at best disingenuous. Yes...that TENN was not very good, and they would have likely gotten destroyed by LSU later in the year. It just was not meant to be that night...
Likewise, LSU would have given UGA a much better game during the season when they finally got their legs back than they did at the end being the only team in the league without a bye week.
11 wins that year was incredible.

I think you're deflecting from the point: had the externals been normal they wouldn't have changed Les's pace or approach. The effects of the external circumstances on the score were negligible.

I think a lot of coaches, including the holy one at Alabama that would have come on a tried to bleed clock after halftime.

First...as has been said, thanks for the honesty. I've said it more times than I can count, but it's always nice to have someone come out and own this absurd position...so kudos for that at least.
I have a number of friends and at least one family member that felt the exact same way as me and also still never liked Miles after that game.

Birds of a feather...
Doesn't make it any less absurd fwiw

Ok.
I was responding to claim that the unusual circumstances surrounding that game influenced how Les approached (presumably) the game plan and 2nd half. I'm suggesting they were negligible. Les would have coached it the same way had it been another "normal" game.
That's all.

Are you seriously trying to give Miles credit fro Russell and Flynn? Or mett for that matter...that guy was as polished a passer when he came in the door as when he left.
Mett was not a polished passer when he came in that is fricking stupid.
2012 ring a bell?

How many successful coaches stomp on the gas up 21? Honestly? You make this sound like something that plagues Miles and Miles alone...being conservative when up big. This is prototypical Monday morning QB'ing to question what is Coaching 101. Had LSU hung on we'd have never ever heard about this. It's RARE to find any coach that doesn't start trying to bleed some clock when they go up big.
Not to mention I haven't watched that game in nearly 10 years, but I have a feeling the suggestion that Les slammed on the breaks as if he was a about to run over a homeless baby are being exaggerated...a bit.

I'm not sure how anyone living in South Louisiana in 2005 at that time could say that the events leading up to that game played a negligible role in the score of that game. I'm not sure you could find a Vol fan with the balls to even make that claim.

There is literally nothing that surprises me about that.
At all.
I've met plenty that feel that way, and it's why I point it out EVERY TIME criticisms of Miles come up on this board. Pointing to idiots that formed their opinion of a man and his abilities based on this one game proves a much larger point...for some, Les Miles can NEVER be good enough.

You do understand that had Miles not continued onward with his dipshitted coaching decisions that these people you've met would have happily forgave him for that Tn coaching blunder. Until ofcourse, his next Tennessee game blunder

The two most successful SEC coaches in the last quarter century.

Ok - I'll be the first (and I flooded). What we saw was Les's MO. The externals had nothing to do with that. And the events affected both teams (even if different in magnitude), not just us.

Thank you. We were up 21-0. That was after the flood
