I'm definitely not arguing. If I wanted to wait tables as a permanent career I would definitely move somewhere like that. However I wat to get out of school and move one with my life at some point.

I can see how it would be a good job, waiting tables in college. Wouldn't want to do it in BR however, for obvious reasons

fricking nailed it.

when i look at a seafood dinner @..$21 i automatically see $25/$26

in that regard it's overpriced food but i still pay the tip...while cheepskates get it at the advertised price.

sometimes i would like the savings on a big ticket though.

Yeh my point was most people who get paid with tips are not claiming all of their income which I think makes the job more appealing...make 50k claim 30k

If you didn't get tips what would be the least you would be willing to bartend for an hour?

I could see how you'd make $50K in Vegas, NYC, LA, or Seattle, def not BR.

You don't think bartenders and waitresses at Ruth Chris, Sullivan's, etc make that?

Don't except tips at our restaurant...it's considered trashy and classless.

waiters are paid $12 an hour to start.

The question is...how much would it be if the servers were making $15-$20 an hour compared to $2?

Well depends on what setting were talking about.
In my current setting dealing with a crowd that frequents a barbecue joint that happens to serve 1$ margaritas? At least 20$/hour.
In a relatively decent bar (think uncle earl's or Boudreaux's and Thibodeaux's) I'd do 15$/hr.
In a place like option 2 I would rarely have to put up with any fights and I would basically have good looking arse thrown at me while still being able to pay my tuition and bills.

Depends on the state. Seattle has a min wage of $10.15 an hour that includes waitstaff personal that are tipped. So at a high end steakhouse in a state that has a high minimum wage, yes, it's entirely possible to make that kind of money in the $50K range. In states like LA, it's what, $2.13 per hour plus tips. Plus at a high end joint like Ruth's Chris, you might only have 4-5 tables the entire night and you have to tip your busser, kitchen staff, and front desk. I use to date a waitress so I got the inside scoope

I fully believe in tipping bartenders as it has an immediate effect on the quality of my drink.

Got a good friend of mine that waits tables at Mansur's. He's pulled in over 50k/year for three years now.
Those guys you see in Vegas working the bars that cost 20$ or more to get into are usually making at least 70k or so a year.

I would think you would make less than you do now at $20 an hour...especially since it will all be taxed.

ETA: this is based on what a gf of mine made 20 years ago...usually over $200 a night...more when I told her to dress sluttier

Oh definitely. But that's my minimum. I make good money because I'm good at what I do or at least like to think so. This past month was the best month I had all year and I made just over 30$/hour after taxes. My usual is about 25$ though.

Only on Credit Card tips. He doesn't claim cash, so that's how the fraud takes place, but frick it, I'd prolly do the same

Vegas also has a bartenders Union, ain't that some shite? I kid you not, they make over $18 per hour plus tips. I have a buddy that manages a Twin Peeks there.

bartend at a really good club or wait tables at any high end/high demand restaurant in BR and you will make 50k a year easy if you get the good dinner shifts...

You tip me good repeatedly and Ill "accidentally" ring in a couple of your doubles as singles/ forget to charge you for a couple beers.

As long as my regulars dont come to expect that then ill do it. Cant do it all the time but I definitely know when I can get away with it.

My rule of thumb in the places I frequent is whatever they "forget" to ring up, ill add between 30 and 50 % of that to their tip depending on how much free stuff I get.
