face paint/wine cork does actually help hide your face

I do think it helps, don't really use it though, the first time I really noticed is when I walked out to pick up birds looked back at the blind and 2 faces stood out like a sore thumb from ground/sea level so I can only imagine what it looks like from 100' up. Next time you walk out if you can look at your buddies in the blind if you don't wear it.

My main thing behind not wearing it is I hate to wear gloves and that's usually around your face when calling, I'm already pretty terrible last thing is another obstacle. Couple that with some bright reflective orange/red/green costas and to me it defeats the purpose.

I don't get the hate for the face paint or mask at all. I always where a mask when I don't have great cover. My pale white face sticks out like a sore thumb. I don't like paint because of how hard it is to get off.

Why would I wear camo pants or shirts and let my face shine like a beacon?

However I would point out I don't think it's at all necessary to kill ducks.

Saw a few groups in Venice this past weekend in South pass all face painted up. Never used to see that sort of stuff before Duck Dynasty.

I do wear a hat and hide my face good when hunting though. Sometimes when hunting geese or in low cover I will wear a mesh facemask also.

Never seen any of their videos, and no, I don't have anything against them... Anything is good, if it's teaching something useful... I don't have to agree with everything they say.. The Robertson family is not the end all do all gods of duck hunting..

However, I did learn most of the stuff I know from my uncle who has been hunting as long as Phil Robertson.

I saw face paint in '94. It was all over our lease. Duck and deer.

Duck Commander should stick to making calls & get off of TV IMO.

Most of us from Louisiana don't act/carry on like they do. Just my :2cents

(Ignoring all the trolling posts)

Idk how much of an influx in duck hunters you can directly attribute to the show. But I will says since it became popular I have had a lot more of my non-hunting friends ask me to take them duck hunting. The amount of shitty callers on public land has also increased exponentially.

As far as DC goes, I've been watching their hunting videos and buying there stuff for years. They've always painted their faces; that's just their technique. Does it make a difference? Maybe, but I've never done it and I don't think it does. As far as their calls go, they used to make a pretty decent call for the money, especially some of their non-mallard calls. But now they're mass producing everything and doing market gimmick calls. Some of them it seems like they just take the same shitty call and paint it camo or pink to sell it. Can't say I blame them. If I had the opportunity to make that kind of money off of idiots I'd jump at it.

I'd love to know where all these newbs find a place to hunt. I've been loving duck hunting since 1978, and I have no where to go.

Remember the "point system" and the 3-duck limit?

What kills me these days are the guys who dress up like Seal Team Six to go kill a duck. They make me laugh.

'94 I was four years out of college, and hunted since I was 12... I had Haydel's and Faulk's calls before DC was ever heard of...I still use my Faulk's WD-30 when hunting woodies...

I'm not saying people didn't paint faces before DD, it was mostly done for turkey hunting in ground blinds..

I really dont care about how other people camo themselves, but i have to admit it looks pretty stupid when guys do face paint patterns that resemble some kind of tribal king.

Same at Bass Pro. They're either "machine gunners" or "duck pukers," but act like they're a duck calling virtuoso.

This. I will use a burned cork on my face when hunting Woodrow from the edge of a pond, but don't smear it on like war paint.

The increase in High paying jobs and the easy of buying a "go anywhere" boat had turned lots of just fishermen into hunters

I think it has more to do with easy credit than high-paying jobs. Too many folks are too eager to go into debt to support a hobby.

You can tell the people who watch outdoor tv shows and act just like it...

I was fishing Lake Fork a few years back, I hear this guy in another boat screaming hooping and hollering, carring on like Jimmy Houston having multiple orgasms, pulls up about a 3lb bass like it was the biggest fish he caught... All that crap makes for better tv...

Ya think that d/bag Mike Iconelli acts like that when the camera is not rolling... I fished Top 150's with those guys, they don't...
