Obviously when the books were written it was almost inconceivable that a British secret agent would not be white. This is no longer the case. There is absolutely nothing inherent to the Bond character that requires a white skinned actor in 2014.
Idris Elba is a suave tough dude and a badass actor. He may end up being the best Bond ever if he takes the job (and I'm a HUGE Connery fan). Elba is so perfect for the part, its crazy.

I used to think it was ludacris(pun intended) for a black man to play bond... but after seeing daniel craig in action, it is time for a change. I thought elba killed it in the wire, he was prob my favorite character on that show, I think he could do it.

I dunno. I don't think it's important to have Bond be white--certainly not important enough to complain about a black Bond.
But he is a well established movie character by now. It might make more sense to expand the franchise and have Elba be James Bond's son. Pretty much anyone is believable as a son of Bond

And of course, the original concept was for Jane Bond, not James, so this wouldn't be the first radical change. It would just be the first that we all noticed.

It would certainly be disconcerting to adjust to such a change in character--I think ANY time there is a casting change in a long-running franchise such as James Bond it is difficult to adjust and that doesn't make it a racist issue.
I'm a huge fan of the Lee Child novels about the character Jack Reacher, who is described as 6'5" and blonde. When TOM CRUISE was cast to play Jack Reacher in the movie I was APPALLED....after reading something like 13 novels with this character in my "mind's eye" it was hard to accept TC as the character. He did a good job in the movie but he wasn't "Jack Reacher" to me....
I also went to see a live production of Les Miserables that had a black man playing Jean Valjean. It was a shock at first and a bit disconcerting to believe him as the character because that isn't what he's been cast as before. He did a fine job in the role, but it was still a bit odd to me.

Meh. I get Rush's point about wanting to stick with Fleming's original concept of the character, but iirc aside from Connery they already bent the rules with non-Scottish Bonds anyway. Genie's already out of the proverbial bottle. And I bet Idris Elba would make for a great Bond.
I don't think it's pouting or stupid, but it does seem like a non-issue.

Not necessarily, yes that is how they were originally. But i don't think their race defines them. It is not something that completely changes who the character is. Yes its different, but different is not always bad. Is it hard to believe that a black guy can be a badass spy? Is it hard to believe that a black girl can be an orphan?

Well that's not really the point here, is it hard to believe that a white person can't own a junkyard? Of course not, but if they redid Sanford and Son with a white Fred people would freak out. That being said, for me the only necessity for James Bond is to have an English type accent and be somewhat refined and I'm all good

Just to point out your ignorance "Fred Sandford" was a remake of the British (White) "Steptoe & Son " of the BBC.
Redd Foxx simply killed it & it didn't matter that "Sandford" was a remake /update of a famous British White character.

Wow , a gotcha moment. I bet you were drooling as you typed that. It doesn't change the premise of my argument anyway . People in America who have never heard of Steptoe would react just like I said. What if they changed George Jefferson to a poor white guy that worked hard and made it big?? What would the reaction be?

Again, the entire premise of the show was focused on an upwardly mobile black family. That was unique for its time. A white actor wouldn't have worked.

Bond is supposed to be able to move seemlessly through British and European society, be somewhat invisible and look like he belongs and slay pussy on the reg (typically, with some sort of connection to the villain). For all of its sophistication, there are still plenty of racist elements in Europe (exclusive clubs [e.g. Goldfinger's country club]) and white women that may not be attracted to a black man. This was certainly the situation when Fleming wrote his novels and, in many respects, it remains that way.
That is why it wouldn't work.

Fleming based his fictional creation on a number of individuals he came across during his time in the Naval Intelligence Division during World War II, admitting that Bond "was a compound of all the secret agents and commando types I met during the war".[1] Among those types were his brother, Peter, who had been involved in behind-the-lines operations in Norway and Greece during the war.[2] Aside from Fleming's brother, a number of others also provided some aspects of Bond's make up, including Conrad O'Brien-ffrench, Patrick Dalzel-Job and Bill "Biffy" Dunderdale.
