Does Rob Ryan keep his job at seaso end based on his performance this year?

It also seem that Payton and Ryan were in a few heated arguments and don't see eye to eye.

no fricking way, in fact he'll be his brother's coordinator in Atlanta so it will be a mutual split to cover for the fact he's getting shitcanned

He shouldn't. He has been horrendous this year, even with a healthy roster.

I'd keep him. Defense hasnt been the problem this year.

I think he sticks around. The defense was decimated by injuries, so it's hard to say it was all RR's fault that the defense sucked. Plus, the D got a little better the last couple of games. If the D is awful again next season, he's gone for sure.

Honestly, the defense at times has been a product of the ineptitude of the offense. I'd like to see our defensive stats in games where our offense has more than two 3-and-outs in the first half. Based off of my crude memory of the season it seemed like a lot of our worst losses came at the hand of teams that jumped on us early, were able to run the ball, and shut down our offense in the first half of the game.
I'd bet playing the Saints this year has been a game-planners wet dream. The only teams we beat tried to win by going to the air and could not run the ball. Give Brees enough cracks at the egg and he'll eventually figure it out.
As far as Ryan, I think he's still a good DC. But if you look at our personnel our team is still stuck in the river between 3-4 and 4-3. We need a true #1/2 corner opposite of Lewis for the Ryan system to work. We need an edge rusher, yet again. Moneybags Blabbermouth Galette just ain't getting it done on his own. Now we have a contract large enough to match his mouth. Finally, we need some friggin linebackers to play a proper 3-4. Not sure why people are calling for Ryan's head when a team doesn't give him the personnel to be able to make a system work that he was brought here to create.

Sean Payton's side was a bigger disappointment with far more $$$ and healthy on its side.

You're joking about the defense, right? The whole team was garbage this year.

What part of the defense was healthy? The secondary sure as hell wasn't and that's the most important part of a Ryan defense

The whole team has been horrible, but you cannot deny the turnaround the D was making towards the end of the year even w/ the injuries. Outside of the Carolina game, the D had been playing well the past few weeks.

I don't see why not. He proved what he could do with a healthy defense last season and nearly 3/4s of what he expected to have in the secondary was out for the season. Now if they perform like that again next season with everyone back, then I'll start to admit they need some blame.
But once again and I'll keep saying it as many times as I need to. How about some blame for the fricking offense that was only able to drive any field distance one time in the entire game? Had they not been handed the ball on the 1 yard line, we probably get waxed again by at least 30-7 or worse.

agreed
LBers stayed relatively healthy. Otherwise, the entire D sustained lots of injuries. The line had a couple and the team was pulling free agents out of street clothes and thin air to suit up and play. The secondary was a MASH unit. Considering that, I think RR gets a 3rd year.

I agree with this

I know we lost key players to injuries but the defense sucked balls when everyone was healthy. I don't like looking at stats but I think we rank 31. But, that's not what matters to me. It's the win/loss stat that I look at. The whole team sucked. We couldn't even beat the falcons with all of their secondary injured. Falcons played to win, saints were just sucking up oxygen in the Dome. I really think coaching problems are some of biggest problems to address.

Agreed. Keeping them on the field most of the game doesn't help either. But, the entire team sucked this year. Our record proves that.

Not quite sure he knows what he's talking about. Our highest paid player, who was supposed to be the cornerstone of the D, has been out since week 4. Bunkley, Bush, Foster, and Butler all expected to contribute heavily and are sitting on IR. I hated the Ryan hire when it was announced. I still think he is probably a mediocre DC, but you can't lay all the blame on him. It wasn't his fault Jordan, Hicks, Galette, and Jenkins all took a step back this year. A defense cannot function without a pass rush, no matter how good the scheme is. He made a turd sandwich look like steak and lobster last year. The turds just started stinking again this year. I think he deserves another year.

Pass Rush. Saints have been abysmal at getting to the passer all year. Well, guess what? We have a 3Tech playing the role of a 4-3 DT, which is a completely different play-style. Coupled with Hicks playing the other DT, which is a position he has proven he can't play, ultimately resulting in no pass rush. We simply don't have the personnel to make a 4-3 or a 3-4 work.
Ryan was creative last year with making it work with his personnel, but guess what... last year we had a weakness at stopping the run. I know it's a shocker to some people, but that's what happens when you are playing a lot of nickel/dime defense - you will get run on. Except last year our secondary was better with Greer and a healthy Lewis, and Vacarro playing close to the line. I haven't even touched on the on-field leadership vacuum left by Jenkins. If the Saints org gets rid of Ryan they are selling themselves short, IMO.
