BP, there's a thread on the tech board somebody started today. Might have some more information for you.

The cameras are great.
In-house access is great.
Nobody has a really good, clean, remote access solution though.

First how many cameras you want/need?
How many cameras are inside and outside?
Do you want to access the cameras from your phone?
Are you installing it yourself?
When looking at Security system's you want a system with PoE (Power Over Ethernet) cameras if not you will have to run two cables to each camera. One for the power the other for video. Power of Ethernet cameras only need one cat5e cable to the camera and back the recorder.
Here a 4 camera system that gets good reviews.

This thread reminds me that I need to hide my mom's hard drive. Probably build a false wall with a safe

And have a dummy one. They'll take it and not even look for the real one. Worked for us at the wife's pharmacy. Mf'ers are 0-5 and all convicted. I just hope they do exactly as I've told them if someone ever tries during business hours.

I ordered one from Home Security Store online. Installed it myself. Their customer support was very good.

Will do. She has an old, broken box sitting in the attic right now

Just make sure it's plugged in to make it look legit.

let me recommend Lorex, BP
we use it for our office and it's been pretty good besides for one bad port from a lightning storm

The one you recommended looks pretty good. how far away can you get a vid/photo that would allow you to identify the person?
btw from that link I may have found a new way to waterfowl scout.

I was bored one w/e, bought an inexpensive Lorex wireless and installed it. The cams have motion detectors with audio alert when someone approaches which is nice.
One cam is shooting down my drive, probably 60' to the street. I can make out vehicles and people, but doubt I could recognize anyone from that distance by features.

No, there is no service, it just lets you look/monitor your surroundings. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles as the newer models, but for 250$ when I was bored it's great.
PS- I don't even smart phone yet.
