This is our routine also. But we do use him to keep them in check.

Like the other guy said....why let that Elf supposedly trash your house and do things you would punish the kids for?
Good point. We never have them make a mess or trash stuff. The messiest thing they do is make what's called Magic Elf Munch or something similar. I can't remember the exact recipe but it's like Chex mix coated with chocolate and confectioners sugar. It's actually pretty good.

Our elf showed up with Tic Tac "seeds" on morning. We planted them in sugar and the next day they grew into candy canes.
Thanks for the Christmas miracle, Elfus!

Nothing creepy about it .... If you have young children is wonderful .
You also should incorporate the portable North Pole and too.

I really don't get the behavior modification thing. Why have a magical elf from the North Pole (which I think is supposed to be a magical, happy place), who has a direct line to Santa (you know, the jolly guy that brings toys to everyone) be your tool for keeping kids in line?

Now that's a cool idea. Will have to use that one.

Some of you are absolutely miserable individuals.
I hope to God you don't have kids, if you do I feel sorry for then bc they fricking hate you.
If they front, congratulations on bringing more miserable people in the world.
Solid contribution

We've done the candy cane thing too. My daughter loved it. Our elf does a mixture of mischievous and nice things. Every day we take a picture of my daughter with him and then Christmas morning one of the presents under the tree is from the elf and it's a photo book of all the pictures that year. My daughter loves that b/c she can look through all the things he's done over the years.
This morning he was sitting on our coffee table circling things in the toy catalog that is on my daughter's Christmas list and he had eaten some popsicles.

Ours had to go spend a couple of nights talking to santa because our daughter was being an a-hole.
ours put stickers that said "adopted" and "replaceable" on our kids pics...all over the house. It was the last time my friends helped me with ideas.

Ours just moves around. Kind of a PITA. I come to bed late, wife asks "Did you move Ely?" Oops.
I suspect it will lead my kids to question Santa sooner. Santa is one thing. You never see him. It is a total mystery. But this little doll sitting on the shelf is supposedly real just like Santa? Right...

It appears you turned out stellar without a creepy elf in your house

Actually I am awesome at parties. Sorry you feel stupid for buying into the stupid elf on the shelf business. Let me guess, you spend all your time at parties talking about your kid and your stupid elf? Sounds like a blast.

Adults arguing over a child's toy.... Nice.

thats funny, my wife would never allow that. Some of the good deeds our elf has done was he brought some cookie dough and asked the kids to make the cookies to distribute to the neighbors. The kids loved it, and it spread a little joy to the other families on our street.

Do you hate your parents? B/c this Elf on a Shelf gimmick wasn't around when you were a kid, so you just had good old Santa Claus. God, how did you fricking survive Christmas?
Posted on 12/9/14 at 12:18 pm to mpar98
Haven't had to do this yet but I already have a few good ideas lined up from co-workers.
Best one I heard was my buddy got tired of putting the thing in different places so one night he throws the thing in the freezer. For a few days his daughters are wondering where he went and his reply was "home" he had to report back for a little while.

Freezer idea reminded me of one that I have seen, but not done. Shave the ice off the side of the freezer and make a snowman with the elf inside.

God forbid new shite comes out that is intended to make Christmas even better for kids.
I get it.... you miserable folks had either poor parents or Jehovah's Witness parents or a combination of both and you're still all bitter about.
Must suck this time of yeAr for some of you.
