Anyone Bank with Capital One?

How is it?
The Fiance and I are thinking of switching over and opening our joint accounts there. She's with Regions. I'm with Dowlafcu. I like Dow, but I'm not opposed to the switch.

Been with them for years and no issues.
Go with a Resource Bank. Always hear great things about them and they are local to SE LA (if you live here)

I've been with them since I opened my first account when they were Hibernia. Very pleased, plenty of locations. I switched to Regions for a little while, but quickly went back to Capital One.

What exactly are you looking for out of a bank?
For a checking account, they are fine. Plenty of local/regional locations, free ATMs/refund fees, free checking/interest checking, mobile deposit, etc.
I've been satisfied with CapOne. I also use Sharebuilder and Capital One 360 (old ING Direct), so the transfers are instant and free. Besides those things, they seem like just your normal banking experience.

Same here. I like that they are all over the Southeast and have a good app with mobile deposit. Also have a Cap1 credit card linked with my account. My wife had Chase, but they charged all kinds of sneaky fees. Much prefer Capital One.

Not sure what kind of account you are looking to open. If it happens to be a savings account, they have a promotion right now of 1.25% APY for the first 6 months if you open the account with $10k+. Then after the 6 months, you can transfer it to a Capital One 360 account (online only) and get 0.75%.

How's this work? She's got a Venture Card. Can you have two cards for the same account? We each get a credit card and all charges appear on the same statement. Is this possible?

Like the CapOne mobile app & mobile check deposit, online 360 account yield. BUT CapOne is pretty useless for construction lending, mortgages, etc. Put a little of your money into a local bank that doesn't farm its loan approvals out to a corporate office somewhere else (esp if you live in a smaller town/rural area). The local guys understand south LA and are so much more willing to work with you on loan matters.

We banked with them for about 15yrs.
1. Money withdrawn from our account by other members (2 occasions), took an act of congress to get it back even though the ATM cameras clearly showed them who withdrew the money.
2. Fraud case - money missing from our checking account that again took an act of congress to get back.
3. Credit scores in the low-mid 800s - interest rates for various loans/credit cards sucked compared to our credit union.

Yeah banking with them won't make them more likely to give you a credit card account or get you a better rate. I'm not a huge fan of their cards anymore, but they are great if you don't have an established credit history.
To those talking about them not being local, they have a huge office in New Orleans. I'm not sure if that's their base, but there are hundreds of people there. IMO it's kind of best of both worlds - get perks of a big bank with a local feel.
To the OP, if your S/O has a Capital one card, you can link it with any bank accounts you have under one login. We had two checking accounts, a savings and a credit card all under one login for a while. Easy to transfer $ among the three and convenient only having a single login to remember

But can you have 2 credit cards under the same account? Let's say I wanted to get the same card as her. Could we view all transactions under one account?
ETA: Or I guess they'd do seperate accounts, but under one login??

If she has the card now, and you get one in your name, you are on the same account as an authorized user. It is not a separate account. All transactions will show up under her login. I have other cards where authorized users can login separately and see only their own purchases - I'm not sure how Capital One does this.

Yes, same account two different card numbers. So you pay one bill, all purchases are under one account, and you tell which card was charged for each purchase. The wife and I do this with the venture card, and rack up serious travel points/miles/or whatever they call it.

So basically the same thing that would happen at any other large financial institution?
The smaller regional banks, community banks, and credit unions should have better customer service, flexibility, and rates. For home/personal loans, I would rarely recommend a "large" bank.
As far as credit cards go, who cares what the interest rate is? You shouldn't be carrying a balance. Larger banks offer better rewards. I like Capital One's CCs due to the venture points and no international fees. This card may not make sense for everyone.
The bank you choose should fit your needs. I bank with Capital One for my checking account, emergency savings account, and credit card services only. It is easy to manage my day to day cash needs on the website and pay my bills.
My mortgages and other accounts are not with Capital One, as they don't offer competitive structures or rates.

Capital One employees have always treated me very well. They always stepped up if there was an issue (rare).
Great customer service if you have to go into a branch (for the branches I visited). I enjoy their commercial online banking webpage.
They do have a good bit of turnover but I think that is common in the field.
Never have done a business or personal loan with them though. Only negative is timelines of larger checks being credited to my account.

I had a credit union debit my account erroneously twice for ATM transactions. They said they didn't store the tape, which was obviously a lie (this was 10 days later).
It can happen at any financial institution. Smaller banks are better at some things, but they generally aren't as good at being a checking and savings bank as the big guys.
Before anyone talks about fees, I have multiple accounts with multiple big banks and have never paid a fee.

I have way better options and interest earnings with my credit union than I ever had with Bank One..

Bank One was a longtime ago. Apps and online interfaces are a huge advantage these days.
