Looking to get a 12 gauge under $1,000. I don't really hunt but would like to give duck hunting a try. I want a gun that is nice enough that if I enjoy duck hunting I won't wanna upgrade and if I don't I still have a nice gun to shoot from time to time and can be passed down.

Spotted Dog has three almost new Beretta A400s on sales for right around $1000 - make the drive and go get one. All come with cases and chokes.

Every man needs a Rem 870, IMO...good to have around even if you chose not to hunt in the future...

I had this exact same dilemma two months ago and went with the beretta a300. Only difference (other than $800) is it only shoots 3" shells and the recoil system is not as good but I put a limb saver on it and have shot ~15 boxes through it so far and it's worked flawlessly. You can literally buy 2 a300's for the price of 1 a400. Just my $.02.

Stoeger M3500 Realtree Max

Mine has been as reliable as the day is long. You can find them for $700. I have recommended them to several friends, and they have likewise been very happy.
