What's the most underwhelming concert you have been to?

I saw the RHCP in New Orleans a couple of years ago and came away very disappointed.

The band's setlist was shite and seemed to completely disregard the first five albums.

Their energy seemed lackluster compared to past shows (it didn't help that Josh Klingoffer was injured and Anthony Kiedis was recovering from an injury as well).

Also, Klingoffer failed to come anywhere close to Frusciante's immense musical presence.

The tickets weren't very expensive but considering that the concert was pushed back eight months due to Kiedis' injury, I expected greatness.

Cowboy Mouth, HOB about 8 years ago.

Went with a girl I was dating at the time who was a huge fan.

They played forever too, it was like a 2 1/2-3 hour set.

The lead singer, drummer was annoying as all hell.

frick Cowboy Mouth.

Saw Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan at the minor league park in Memphis. Willie was ok at best. Bob Dylan, old, ornery, at an outdoor venue with sub standard acoustics= turribleness. Never been to a musical event where I felt more ripped off.

Why would you expect greatness after the proven heart & soul of the band (Frusciante) departed?

This couldn't have been shocking to anyone with a passing familiarity with music.

Frusciante is one of the best rock guitarists of the past 30 years - I like Josh, but he is a blue collar, lunchpail guitar player - way better than most people could ever be, but not an elite ax man, by any stretch.

That's probably not their fault - you got to give the people what they want. They probably played selections primarily from the Big 4/5 (whether or not you count One Hot Minute) - plus Soul to Squeeze (if that) - and marked it paid.

Unless they're playing a couple of covers of Funk classics. I think that should be their next album - covers of P/F, James Brown, Commodores, EWF - just a RHCP take on those classics - which they are obviously the inheritors of (as black artists seem to have eschewed this last, great black rock genre.)

Not me but my dad mentioned to me the other day that he went to a Ray Charles concert at the Strand theater in Shreveport back in the day and said it was the worst concert he has ever been to. He said it was because Ray seemed like he didn't want to be there and was kind of over having to play in Shreveport, which is unfortunate.

The Cars at what was then called the Centroplex in 1980 or '81. They played for less than an hour and pretty much just mailed it in. The Motels opened for them and were much better in my opinion.

I have to agree about Cowboy Mouth too. When I saw them they played with a lot of energy but Fred is just annoying.

Although I didn't buy tickets to specifically see them, Mastodon on the 2013 Mayhem Fest circuit was pretty hard to watch.

Most prog rock/metal bands don't fair well in festival settings and I can now attest to that.

They have grown on me a little since that performance, but I can never remember another heavy metal show putting me to sleep like those guys did.

the War on Drugs
Saw them last June or July and it was great. Show was in Paris

Animal Collective
The two times I saw their dj set, it was unbearable. The two times I saw their full band, it was awesome.

RHCP
Wasn't bad when I saw them in 2006 but I that was back when I was into their music. Not my thing anymore.

Arctic Monkeys
No desire to see them anyway. What are their good songs? I must have passed them over.

Most underwhelming shows I've been to are Phish 3.0.
More recently, Alt-j.

I saw Georgio Moroder as the set-break show at City Bisco this year.

Billed as the godfather of disco, I was excited post-Random Access Memories. Instead he DJd a whole set of modern pop song remixes. Really strange hearing britney spears/iggy azalea at a Disco Biscuits show.

Second - Bob Dylan was terrible in '09 when I saw him at Rothbury.

I saw Blues Traveler in Mobile like 10 years ago with my cousins. It was really shitty. Fatso was out of breath the whole time and it was really putting a strain on his ability to sing. Even his harmonica sounded out of breath.

Beats Antique HOB New Orleans 2012...I had no idea what I was going in to, but the people I went with really talked them up.

It was hands down the shittiest concert I've been to. frick Beats Antique. I took people by their set at Buku last year just to mock them and show others how shitty that band is. We left after 5 minutes

fricking Tool. One of the biggest disappointments I can remember. And this was after years of people telling me how amazing they were live. Everyone agreed that they were having an off night but Jesus I was pissed.
