Best brand of cordless tools?

I'm trying to think of some Christmas ideas for my wife. I need some good cordless tools and Dewalt is the brand that always comes to mind. I've been told recently that Dewalt isn't worth a shite anymore. What brands would you recommend me looking at? Milwaukee?

Dewalt is not as good as Makita or Bosch, IMO.

What are you looking to buy?
The V12 and V18 Milwaukees are nice, Makitas are nice too. Porter Cable (souped up B&D) are pretty good.
Battery technology has come a long way. You can fully charge a drained battery in 30 minutes on the Milwaukee V12 impact driver and drive 200 2" deck screws with it. Look at some reviews on youtube.

Dewalt and Makita are my recommendations.

We use Milwaukee at work and put them through hell. Always have good luck with them too

Can never go wrong with DeWalt. 20V Max line is legit. Makita makes some good tool but their combo kits are not as tough as DeWalt or Milwaukee options.

Milwaukee. I have had every single brand, and have made up my mind. Absolute worst cordless tools I have owned were Bosch and Ryobi.
Milwaukee has so many tools that all use the same batteries. I have a 12v 3/8" impact that is awesome, but they have like 20 other tools that use the same battery

Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Skil, Craftsman, I've got and used all of them. No problems. Even have a 3/8 drill..metal housing by Wizard (Western Auto) still working.

There is a package deal at Costco with the top of the line dewalt hammer drill with metal casing and the impact. Its the 20v with large pack for 229. I have this set and it is fantastic. Batteries last forever.
I consider makita, dewalt and Milwaukee all about the same.
If you have a smaller budget go ridgid for warranty

If I had to start over at this point, I think I'd go with Makita. I have big $ invested in Dewalt cordless and Milwaukee corded tools as of now. The few Makita tools I do have seem a cut above the quality I'm seeing in other tools.
I'm speaking from a none weekend warrior stand point though.

What will you be using them for? Will you work with them daily or just odds and ends around the house? I do a lot of work on rental houses/office blogs/retail stuff. I have used about every brand there is. This is what I have.
My 18v set is makita. It is awesome when I need it, but not my everyday carry.
12v dewalt set. Drill, impact, small sawzall, work light. This happens to be my favorite set I have ever had.
Also have a Milwaukee 12v set. Drill, impact, multi tool. Great quality tools.
I have had a Bosch 12v set also. Good tools
Have had a hitachi 12v set drill and impact also. Good also.
My 12v dewalt set was stolen out of my truck earlier this year. I will be puchasing another one hopefully before the end of the year.

I've got a Ryobi thats been around for years. Only the battery went bad.
Also got a Milwaukee that I have had to send back.
If I were you, and you aren't a general contractor:
Get a Lowes or Home Depot gift card (or a bunch of them) and get the affordable brand if it will sit in your garage 6 days a week.....they are just fine.
THen use the leftover money to buy the wood and screws of what you want to build.
