How good can the pelicans really be? I am a huge fan but honestly don't know much about basketball. We all know that AD is special. But with the talent on this roster how far can they go?

1st round exit. Bench not deep enough.

This team definitely has the talent to go far. However, our bench is a bit lacking and we don't always play the best defense when we need to. We are a great 3rd quarter team, but that doesn't mean anything if we cannot close out the game in the 4th quarter. We should have easily won against the Cavs, but our defense let up and then they won by 7.

If we play absolutely out of our minds and avoid injuries we could get about a 6 seed

Then with a huge amount of luck and getting hot at the right time maybe get to the second round

That's about the absolute maximum to expect

More than likely we have a bad injury or two and barely miss the playoffs. That's what I'm expecting anyway.

with the current roster I believe we could sneak into the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed. we are not deep enough to make it out of the first round though. making the playoffs this season though would be a huge step in the right direction and put this franchise in a good place moving forward

When this team is hitting on all cylinders, meaning AD has a normal night, tyreke only blows 5 lay ups, Gordon scores at least 10, Jrue has 10+ assists, Ryno is hot, and Austin Rivers has more assists than turnovers, I believe they can run with the best of em. But to extrapolate that over 7 games seems a little too idealistic at this point. Playoffs? Sure. But this team doesn't have the bench depth to make a serious run. We are about 2 players (a scorer and a 3+D SF) away from being a nightmare matchup.

The Pelicans are going to be competitive and beat some of the top tier teams. I don't know if they are good enough to make the playoffs in the west though. ^ players are good but after that it's a pretty weak bench. I said before the year that they could be similar to Portland last year, but what they were able to do was pretty remarkable. I think this team could contend in the East.

This team's ceiling, imo is about 50 wins.

They'll do what Portland did at best, play spoiler and sneak out of the 1st round only to lose in the 2nd round.

No bench depth at all, but a very solid 6 (5 1/2 to be exact since EG is only contributing on defense right now).

I think best case scenario is about 50 wins, and a a 7-8, maybe 6 seed if we're lucky. And it depends on who we play, but we might be a 1st round exit, maybe win one series. If that happens though, I would consider it a successful season. We would be a lot better if Gordon played better, and if we had a better bench.

I think they make the playoffs if AD plays 75+ games. I really do. The coaching is the main thing holding them back. AD is definitely closer to LBJ and KD than he is to the pack right now. He's just too good for his team to not be top 10 if they aren't tanking.

Can anyone think of parallels of players that good not making the playoffs? KG was good but I think its flat out wrong to say he was as good as AD is now. Plus, our team is really poorly made but has decent starting talent.

Fringe playoff team. Could be dangerous in a year or two if they add some additional pieces

Surviving the west will be tough with a thin roster. But if they get into the playoffs, the top 6 gives them the talent to pull off an upset.

They still don't know who they are as a team

If we stay healthy, we will be in the playoffs. AD is one of the best players in the world. Enough said.

Jrue is steady, makes buckets, dishes out assists, and gives us solid perimeter defense.

Tyreke can take it to the hole on anyone. Last year, he had difficulty finishing in the beginning, but he started draining layups as the season progressed. He has an improved 3-pt shot, which is encouraging. He had some beautiful dishes to AD in the paint against the Lakers.

Nobody anticipated the improvement that Austin Rivers has shown. He is now a player that opposing teams have to account for and respect.

I still believe that Eric Gordon will find a role, and heat up as the season progresses.

The best case scenereo is happening with Asik. I.e. He's a defensive force who pulls down rebounds on that end of the floor, which is what we were lacking last year.

Ryan Anderson has shown that he is fully recovered, and is draining threes.

I really like this team.

The ceiling for the core of this team, projected over 2-3 years, is REALLY high. Make the right moves, retain the right players around AD, and you're winning playoff series and making runs for the West. As for this year, a shallow bench sets the ceiling lower. Pels cannot afford much in the way of injuries but after being decimated last year, perhaps we get a relatively injury-free year. We also have Gordon problem. I think he can and will shoot beter than he has but he may just be a diminished player after all of the injuries and he is soaking big minutes at the 2 spot.

My admittedly optimistic goals for this year: 48 wins and win a playoff series.
