I've always enjoyed Bill's opinion, and that has nothing to do with his recent love for the Pels.

I'm a big fan regardless, but I take his opinions on the NBA as legit comments.

I really really want to buy in to all this AD hype and Pels hype in general. I really want to get excited about Simmons saying he thinks the Pels will be in a Finals within a decade. BUT, the fear of Anthony Davis leaving for a bigger market is still stuck in my mind. I know how much of a financial hit he'll take if he goes elsewhere. I know all that, I understand it. It still bothers me. I don't trust that we won't be back into a CP3 situation just as we started to get excited.

You have like 6 years. Relax.

If the team isn't competitive enough to keep him then, we don't deserve to.

We control him for at least 5 more years. It's not time to even think about worrying about that yet.

Davis our guy, but I flabbergasted at these rankings of CP3 when the case can be made he is not his teams best player.

There are 2 big differences between AD's situation and CP3's situation.

1) Benson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Shinn
The beginning of the end for the CP3/DWest core according to DWest was trading Tyson Chandler which Shinn/Bower had to do because Shinn didn't have the finances to support a team that wasn't competing for the playoffs every year. They couldn't wait for the best case scenario of Chandler being healthy enough to win a title 2 years later.

2) Part of the CP3 foundation was built on aging veterans ready to hit their expiration date. The team could have waited for Chandler if Peja/Posey were a contract cycle younger. As much as people complain about the moves Demps has made that they don't like, the "young veteran" strategy and the shorter contracts in the new CBA are not going to stick you with a max salary slot that's a shell of his former self for 3 years.

Could Ryno become Chandler and Gordon become Peja? It's possible, but Gordon's contract is ending much earlier in AD's life cycle than where Peja was with CP3. This team is FUN to watch. They had 17 blocked shots last night. They are disruptive on defense which means they get out on the fast break a lot. Ryan Anderson is one of the best 3 point shooters in the league and he electrified the crowd with 3 3s in a row to single handedly turn the tide of the game.

If you don't follow this team because you're afraid of what might happen in 5 years, you're doing yourself a disservice.

Remember when Bill said we should have taken Nerlens and given a max deal to brandon jennings instead of getting Jrue? Good times.

Great post, Gordon contract will be up when AD is ready to sign his extension. That gives us a lot more room to make moves then we did with CP.

I follow the team, always will. But there's a difference between following it every night and ponying up money for tickets like what this franchise desperately needs.
Drew Brees has made a point to let this city know he is happy here and intends to never leave. The Saints are stable. AD hasn't really said anything of the sort. (Not a criticism of him, just a fact) How do we know he wants to stay here and not go back to Chicago. How energized would this fanbase be if the Pelicans and AD agreed to a 10yr deal tomorrow. You'd instantly get that stability the Saints have, and you'd see the results in the game attendance

Won't happen till 2020 anyway. If we are a legit team by then, who says he would leave anyway.

That's fine, I'm not telling anyone to give Tom Benson more money to throw on the pile, I just don't think anyone should let fear of the future keep them from enjoying what AD is giving us now. There are a lot of fans that still have CP3 PTSD.

If you believe a poster that said he sat next to AD's dad last night, AD loves playing here LINK /

Winning cures all. CP3 left because a potential contender fell apart around him. Nothing is really going to ease your fears other than results, like resigning Asik and the team staying healthy.

Which I always thought was very fair.

We put a lot of eggs into Jrue and the jury is still out on the deal.
