USC had some good coaches in the past, but Carroll was incredible there.

Others:
Barry Alvarez, WISC.
Jim Harbaugh ,, Stanford. Might be too soon, but JH did an incredible job for that program.

Gary Patterson- Tcu.

That one might not be a popular choice.

Maybe Urban at Utah. He started them up and they turned the momentum they gained into two BCS bowl wins and a major conference invite.

Joe Pa was hired in 65, so 49 years ago. Say what you want to about his later, more senile years, but the man built PSU up like no one ever thought possible.

McCartney only had from 88-92 as a solid run. Not sure that is long term.

Harbaugh at Stanford no

Stanford had gone to a Rose Bowl before he got there (Willingham) and hired Walsh twice.

So does that make Mike Price a great hire at Wazzu? He went to two Rose Bowls.

Woody Hayes won 5 national championships in 27 years at Ohio State. Should be on that list.

Don't forget the most obvious one. Mark Stoops - Kentucky. It's only year two, but I have never seen a UK team look like an SEC team like this one. It's amazing what he has done in a year and a half.

I'm only joking in the vein of 50 years of history, but as a UK fan, this is the best hire since Bear Bryant.

Hayden Fry - Iowa

Pre-Fry Iowa had Kansas like run for nearly 20 years. With Hayden Fry Iowa was one of the best programs in the Big Ten in the 80s
