There are 100s of acres of wooded area behind our subdivision. Hearing coyotes and sightings are becoming more common along with outside pets disappearing as well. Cat owners are taking the worse losses.

Get a piece of memory foam mattress and cut it into 1" cubed chunks with a bread knife. Soak that in hog lard, bacon grease, pig blood and put It out in your back yard. Coyotes eat it and they die.

i never said it was humane. its effective and they don't get wise to it. besides, they ain't supposed to be east of the missippi - introduced species.
the "batting practice" reference is off-base - use cb caps

Those bastards just started hoopin and a hollering when sirens in the highway passed by just now . Their den has to be right here by my house. Sounded like about 5 or 6 within throwing distance of each other. There are about 10 cows with a few calves next door so I wonder if they are watching them.

Doubt they would mess with even a large calf certainly not a cow

No, it is psychotic.
Anyone who thinks that causing a animal unnecessary pain needs to be evaluated. Shoot them, great, try to make a clean kill.

We had cats disappearing in our neighborhood and people started blaming the coyotes. Turned out it was one of the guys in the neighborhood trapping them, shooting them and then dumping the bodies. He got caught carrying his next door neighbor's cat and throwing it into the back of his truck. He got a nice visit from the OPSO and gets his day in court.
Oh, and he is a retired police officer. Surprise.
The coyotes probably did kill some of the cats.

snares are the best way to go. bacon will get them to come in. but the bacon on a fence line are game run. snares on both sides. If there are dogs that run loose it will get them too, which is not good.

get some 4/0 or 5/0 circle hooks a put meat scraps on them. let them hang from stout branches about 3-4' off the ground from some wire leader. wake up early the next morning before the neighbors see and go get some batting practice. cheap and effective.
You're sick, and not in a funny way. You need help.

Isn't this essentially how they catch and kill alligators? Only it's a gun instead of a bat? Is it okay to use the "hook on a rope" technique for alligators because you are harvesting them?

My inlaws boston terrier got killed by a coyote in a neighborhood off Bayou Black in Houma. My FIL went home 1 day for lunch and basically saw his skin laying on the side of the street. He & his boss went out that night and killed 5 of them

For one thing. killing a couple does no good. You have to eliminate them all in an area. If not, mother natures adjusts and they have larger litters.

If you are fine advocating an indiscriminate killing of random animals in an illegal manner which also causes unnecessary pain and suffering for whatever animal happens to be unlucky enough to find this setup, I am not sure hunting is for you.

The talk of hanging hooksin the woods or poisoning makes all hunters look bad...
And ditto tiger deacon...
If I was runnin bird dogs and one got caught on a hook it would be a life changing event when I caught up with the hook setter
Worse for poisoning.....

I'll bump this thread.
Yesterday evening at ~6:30, I had a pack of yotes chasing a rabbit through my yard. We've had pets disappear in the past, so I'd like to get rid of them. Questions from this thread:
How would I find a coyote trapper in the area?
I'd like to shoot them (needs to be in .22 range, I'm in city limits) but don't want to buy a predator call. Anyone have experience with a predator call app? I'm thinking I can use a Bluetooth speaker from the phone.
Would a chicken in a cage work as well as bait?
Thanks for any replies.
