Charlie Strong tells Goodell Colleges can do better

Strong meets with Goodell
quote:
(It) was not so much about our core values, but also we just talked about the character of athletes,” Strong said of his discussion with Goodell. “I said to him what is happening in the NFL is we’re sending you some players that have questionable character, and I said you’re giving them a lot of money.
“You give somebody who has bad character a lot of money, that’s a situation probably you want to avoid,” Strong said. “We have to do a better job in college of just preparing young men and doing a better job with their character.”

I like Strong. I give it ~3 years for UT to be dominating Texas again.

More worried about the pros than Texas?

College football is about to give the NFL Winston. Good luck with that one Goodell.

I'm not so sure about this. I hope it's the case but I suspect that 18 year old kids don't view his disciple as a good thing.
I do think he'll be the opposite of Mack though. Mack would get classes full of 4 and 5 star athletes and then under perform. Strong will get whatever he gets and get the most from them.

So what was this meeting about exactly? Whether CFB will remain the NFL's free minor league?
Posted on 9/30/14 at 3:21 pm to emanresu
this could help keep kids in college longer

I heart you.

quote:frick yea they don't. They want to party at practice with a DJ, not have to worry about drug tests, and not be held accountable for breaking the law. Charlie is taking a strong stance against that

@ blaming the colleges for sending thugs to the NFL when the NFL gave not one frick about who they signed up for years and years.
Posted on 9/30/14 at 4:45 pm to Dr RC
The NFL is responsible but I applaud Strong for pointing out that they have these problems before they even get to the NFL.

they have those problems before they even get to college.
the root cause of the problem is bad parents and high schools that don't give a frick about the kids education so long as they "pass" and keep their funding up.
