One of the larger stadiums in the EPL.
Plenty of cash (did they ever spend the Andy Carrol overflow?)
Plenty of history, though not one of the top teams.
Rabid fans/following
What am I missing?

haven't really had stable management. they were good in the early/mid 2000s with sir bobby and shearer, speed and those guys/ solano was one of my favorite players.
they had that great season a couple years ago but getting relegated before that didn't really help their chances of getting back near the top 4 consistently

Almost put "paging S" in the thread title but figured you'd see it quickly anyway.
Probably need good management to then be stable.
I just always thought they struggled to be consistently good since I started paying attention. Relegation certainly didn't help their current standing.

i thought graeme souness could have/should have done better duing his spell. bought good players like luque and emre (paging keys open doors) but they were always hurt. craig bellamy was always hurt when he was there too.
and ashley hasnt helped either. that kinnear thing from last year was comedy

Put simply, this...but it's a little more complex.
Over the course of the last two months of 2013, the Magpies won at Old Trafford, and beat both Spurs & Chelsea. Midway through, they were 8th in the table with 33 points, admittedly overachieving.
It started going downhill with a home loss to Arsenal just before the new year. They'd finish the second half with 4 wins, 1 draw and 15 losses, which included a historically AWFUL 3-0 loss to Sunderland at St. James's Park.
Lose Cabaye in January, Debuchy & Remy over the summer. Pardew has also had poor relationships with several players, and Ashley is content to sell high & replace with cheaper talent, as long as the team stays above the relegation line.
They may not have that choice this season...

Missing Sir Bobby Robson

As much as he did for NUFC, I'll always appreciate what his team did as he wore that grey suit in Italy in '90.
Haters going in...admirers coming out...deal with it
In the words of Samuel L, I need to
Samuel L bids you goodnight

They have become a selling club. See Debuchy, Remy, Cabaye, Ba etc. Difficult to have real expectations when you are constantly turning over your best players.

They could become a force. FFP plays right into their hands.

Same reason we were so godamn horrible last year poor management, not a lot of money to shell out (or unwillingness to), not an attractive area to bring players into compared to others(despite some calling it the NOLA of England), and from what I understand the entire NE is pretty poor economically.
Also both NE fanbases seem to support teams regardless of how shitty they end up being.
