re: Would you be pleased with 8-4 or 7-5 if one of the 7 or 8 was Alabama?

ONLY if we beat them and it kept them out of the playoff.

That's dumb as shite. 8-4 or 7-5 is ok as long as we beat Alabama? GTFO. 8-4/7-5 at LSU is never ok.

The decline has been embraced

Retarded. Not happy with 7 wins no matter who we beat

Hell no.
We may not be NC material, but damn if I want to settle for a spoiler role as a damn afterthought.
No, if we are going to lose, I want to lose gloriously and figure where to go from the bottom. Not meddle around in the middle for a while.

This. It's almost as if Les plays into this, "well we're going to lose anyway let's save the good stuff for Bama" bs.
I understand beating a rival, but play to have a successful season not just one game.

I think I would concentrate on Ole Miss, brah, you know, the low hangin fruit...

It's about 50/50 so far.
As I figured, a divided fanbase -
P.S. For those of you that are talking about Bama obsession and decline and crap like that, I have been watching SEC football longer than most of you have been alive. I went through the success of the 80s, the Hallman and Dinardo years of the 90s, and the championships of the 2000s.
I know what I see and this is an average LSU defense - at best. That usually means 4-4 or 3-5 in the SEC. If they win more than that it will be with offense - if they open it up and stop playing like they have something to lose.
My butt will be in Tiger Stadium the rest of the season no matter what. What about you?

No.
It's not about beating Bama in any one year, though that often would be necessary to win a championship. Beating Bama in a mediocre year as your scenario entails would certainly not be pleasing anymore so than beating another SEC team in said year. It's about supplanting Bama as the premier program in the SEC.

6-6 will get us in they have 95 bowls

This is pathetic. This is the thought process employed by teams like Vanderbilt and Kentucky.
Irrespective of their record, they're pleased with their season a success if they knock off one of the "big dogs".
The fact that any LSU fan would actually be happy with a 7 win season is stunning.
The culture is certainly changing around LSU football. If you don't believe the "decline" is occurring based on the product that is put on the field, then just talk to any of our fans. Most of them have implicitly accepted that it's occurring.
