yea, they definitely gained an on field advantage that year from paying Reggie
They got caught with Reggie.
Or is your argument that they ran a tight and upstanding program and they felt Reggie was SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME that they wanted to throw all of that integrity away to get them.
And then hold off on using him.
Because he wasn't good enough yet to be an impact right out of the gate compared to what they already had.
It isn't just a vacated win.
All organizations except the AP vacated their title as well.

my argument is kinda that everyone does it, they happened to get caught, but that doesn't undo what they accomplished on the field that year.
it's vacated, but that's meaningless. it still happened. I watched it with my own eyes.
people who act like the ones who get caught are the only ones cheating are extremely naive.

2003 and 2004 AP Titles are sitting in Heritage Hall.
BCS is done, it's over.
AP has been there since the beginning - 1936.
The Business Arrangement Title or BCS can keep their done crystal ball...USC will take the national titles that stand the test of time...instead of 12 years for the BCS.
And you're a total retard about the Reggie Bush situation...why don't you read and learn about it. You sound like you're a 12 year old trolling.
Yeah...USC gains an advantage by agents trying to lure Reggie Bush OUT OF SCHOOL and into the draft.
yeah...some advantage.
0/10 on your trolls today.

2003 lsu won it - both teams agreed to the bcs rules before the season began.
Actually, both teams just agreed that the "BCS champion" would be voted #1 in the coach's poll.
quote:
2004 - no one won it, after usc was caught cheating and the title and season vacated
Nobody won the BCS championship. All of the other polls still kept USC at #1, making USC the consensus (and undisputed) champion since not even the BCS offered an alternate.
You gave it your best shot, my man.

quote:So what if a school is paying recruits hundreds of thousands of dollars each, and so they get every single top recruit in the country. Anybody they want. They got them.
2004: USC won it but was later vacated which is basically the ncaa saying "close your eyes and wipe this from your memory. even though it really happened it didn't"
Then they also handed out steroids and other performance enhancing drugs to players.
Then their team goes out and dominates and goes undefeated and wins a national championship.
Then it's found out they cheated and their wins are vacated. Would you still consider them the legit national champion?

what does your hypothetical have to do with this thread? you're moving the goalposts so you can get me to agree with you then say "boom, that's what happened here" even though it's not comparable.

usc's entire program under carroll was built on recruiting the top talent in america
the way that happened was through negligence - essentially letting recruits and players at usc get paid by agents.
recruits saw older players getting paid
and they wanted some of the action
so they signed with usc
and so the usc "dynasty" was built during carroll
but it came crashing down when they were caught
0 national champs for usc since what 1974, 1978?

lots of conjecture and assumptions there.

Eh.
I don't doubt that pretty much everyone does it.
What got USC caught is how overt they were about doing it. Small stuff you can hide, and many schools can and do hide it extremely well behind several layers of plausible deniability.
They were freaks that year.
Most dominant team I have seen in my admittingly short years of following CFB.
It doesn't matter what they did. Conclusive proof arose that they fragrantly cheated.
The situation and your argument pairs up pretty well in analogue with the Lance Armstrong situation.
You are arguing that it doesn't matter that he got caught cheating.
You saw with your own eyes him owning those Tour de Frances, and everyone at that level dopes anyway.

lance's cheating directly affected his performance. that's not the same
Posted on 9/20/14 at 2:52 pm to PrimeTime Money
cheating on the field with PEDs and cheating by paying players is not at all the same.
