I'm an insurance agent. I wouldn't. If it was less to fix the door, I might. Also, see about lowering your comprehensive deductibles. Everyone I quote, I offer a zero deductible for comprehensive. The difference is usually very small and saves the pain when, inevitably, it's time to replace a windshield.

ETA: This would be more likely a homeowners claim, anyway.

As far as homeowners claim go most are wind or storm related which shouldn't be held against you

However decreases are pretty rare no matter the circumstance unless you change coverage so consider yourself one of the lucky ones

home or auto?

This will stay on your record for a few years, could slightly raise your rates. its up to you, at least you arent just slightly over your deductible. I see $1100-1200 claims with 1k ded's all the time. people are idiots

My company doesn't, but if it's just a little crack in the glass, we'll repair it for free before it gets big.

Well then you should be saving tons of money with them assuming you have everything bundled

They're pretty easy to beat on Homeowners, I've found. That 5% mandatory hurricane deductible is scaring people off.

$500 on auto, I'm told it would be a vehicle claim.

A little more info - we had a claim a little less than 3 years ago (33 months).

It was "no fault" for whatever that's worth. My wife's old car (trend here), rolled into someone elses car down the hill at work (she wasnt in it). She did not have it in gear, at least not fully (manual).

Homeowners is relatively easy to beat if they aren't tri-bundled

Because you can cream their home but what they lose on the back end by losing discounts doesn't make it worth it for the older policies a lot of time

But I do know a ton of people are pissed about the 5% and are even taking higher premiums to get away from that atrocious deductible

You don't want to file a collision claim just to get a little over $1000 bucks. Best case scenario, you break even over the next 3 years. Worst case scenario, you actually have a real accident and that will be the 2nd one on ya'll s record.
