I could have elaborated on that, but watching them play against Dallas a couple of times this year, they don't frick up a lot and the team is very much in sync. What I meant I guess was that a casual hockey fan looking for a team to support would likely find the Blackhawks appealing based on the way they play and having, in my opinion, some of the best uniforms.

As a northern transplant in the south, my observation is that you will likely be happiest with offense over a top notch goalie and defense.

That said, being in Houston I would assume you get all the Stars games so I would choose someone within the division so at least you will be able to see some of the games without going to a bar or getting center ice.

I would go Blues, Avs, Stars in that order. Star are up and coming but they are also getting old.

Eh? 8 players 25 or under including their projected top line. Only 3 players 35 or over. Not an old team at all.

I do think the stars are being wildly overrated by the media and the fancystats crowd. There are things to like about this team, but they are being treated like they have arrived after barely making the playoffs and then quickly exiting. Their blueline is pretty atrocious and shows no real signs of ever becoming even in the league's top half. They've got some nice forward lines, but I really do think this team tops out as an interesting squad that might pull an upset in the first round.

Besides, the West is so loaded, and it's hard to see the Stars going toe to toe with the Ducks and Sharks consistently, much less the Hawks, Blues, and Kings.

ehhh maybe I was wrong was thinking of guys over 30; horcoff, spezza, KL, gonchar etc.;

Going to have to retool and build a farm system. Will take a while.

Why go through the frustration when St. Louis is going to be contender for the next little while?

While I agree that the blue line is the Achilles heel of the team and was very weak last year, I don't agree that it shows no signs of ever becoming decent.

This will be a big year for guys like Oleksiak, Nemeth, Klingburg, and Jokipakka.

Blueliners notoriously take longer to develop, and the Stars are counting on lots of young guys to make the leap. I don't buy that. That's too much wishful thinking. (It could happen, but it is unlikely)

Montreal Canadiens

Winningest and one of the oldest franchises in the NHL. Part of the original 6.

And before you think I'd like you to join a front runner, it's important to note that we haven't won a Stanley cup since 1993.

It's been a long climb back to being relevant but we have the foundation of a solid team and should be competitive for the foreseeable future.

ETA: and you must hate Carey Price like the rest of us

I'm on mobile. Look at my threads started on the msb, I started the same thread and got some great input. Went with the stars.

My team is the New York Rangers.

They are a young team (with quite a few American skaters) There last captain was a young American and the rumored future on will be as well.

Give McDonagh the C!

They are an Original 6 team. Rarely the best team in the metropolitan division, but have managed to fight there way to cup last year and conference finals 2 years ago.

I like following a goalie and Lundqvist is a great choice.

Of course I am biased though. LGR!

Agreed. Nemeth('10), Oleksiak('11) and Jokipakka('11) need to prove it this season that we have some youth coming.

The Avalanche with Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic was like the Bulls with Jordan and Pippen.

Not a huge hockey fan, but I still scoreboard watch the Avalanche.

The Colorado Avalanche are the only reasonable choice. They exude awesomeness. All the other teams exude something other than Avalanche awesomeness.

A great city, awesome fans, great young players, phenomenal tradition, hockey legends of yore-Colorado has the whole package.

To even consider other options is an act of quasi-terrorism, and deeply un-American. And it will mean that the terrorists will have won. Do it for the children.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and input. I plan on this being a lifelong commitment, so I truly appreciate the assistance.

I think it's a two-horse race, at this point, between the Blues and Blue Jackets.

The Blue Jackets are attractive because:

1. The franchise has only existed for 14 years, which would allow me to have a much more complete understanding of the team's history

2. The lack of accomplishments in their brief history makes them easy to root for and also means that every big accomplishment won't just be my first chance to experience it, but the first chance for the entire CBJ fanbase as well

3. Having fellow fans to talk to on here is certainly a positive (especially if they would be willing to help me get up to speed)

The reasons why I wouldn't go with the Blue Jackets are:

1. I can't say I'm a huge fan of their logo, color scheme, or jerseys

2. The more I think about it, the more the excessive use of Civil War references is off-putting (this has little to do with me being from the South)

3. Other than you fine CBJ fans, no one else has suggested the team

The Blues are attractive because:

1. I like their logo, color scheme, and jerseys

2. Despite their history of reasonable success, they've never won a Stanley Cup, which makes them easy to root for

3. They've been suggested a number of times

The reasons why I wouldn't go with the Blues are:

1. My dislike of the St. Louis Cardinals wouldn't fit in with most Blues fans, I'd imagine

2. They have nearly 50 years of history that won't be easy to appreciate or learn

If anyone has any further input concerning these two teams (or another, if you really think I'm making the wrong decision), speak now or forever hold your peace.

I intend on making a final decision by the end of tomorrow (I'm wanting to decide before the preseason starts).

I plan on getting Gamecenter Live, so this isn't a concern of mine.

They manage the Toyota Center on behalf of the Harris County Sports Authority. The Rockets felt that they were leaving money on the table by tying up the building on weekends that the Aeros were playing and wanted more concerts, etc. When the lease was up, Rockets wanted the Aeros to pay $5 million a year for rent, Wild said see ya.
