Was there in May. Hope to do a day trip to Jost in November. Missed a fellow TDer there by one freaking day.

Next trip to St John I'm going to rent this place. Insanely good price. The view is awesome. LINK
Ugh. It's already booked for all of May...or they just haven't released the dates.

Depending on what time your flight from LA arrives an overnight in Papeete may be required.
Yep. We're doing 1 day in Tahiti before we hop over to bora bora. 50 minute jumper. Then doing 4 in Bora and 3 in moorea.

Just a beautiful island. We went diving( like most other trips we go on) and that was the best diving I had done to date.
I did not have people hounding us to buy their little trinkets, like in Mexico. It was clean, people were nice
Jelly fish lake was pretty cool too

Enjoy. Bora Bora is majestic. Moorea is damned nice as well though we didn't really leave the resort we were on there. I wish I had. Next time!

I think flights alone would cost 3-4K for two people.
If Swiss Family Crickets is flying that far, we are in the leather. No coach. Sadly, 3-4k won't cover that.
Living in DFW, we are beholden to AA's AAdvantage program and using miles for 1st class flights for that distance typically blows. Usually cover one leg then pay for the remainder.
Dammit.

You're actually fortunate. AA is a partner with air Tahiti nui allowing a direct from lax. But yeah it ain't cheap. $8k round trip in biz class. I think 125k RT AA miles.

Outside of US? Friend of mine went to Croatia. Said it was gorgeous. Dunno if I'd be hanging out in the Balkans, though.

Sandals on what island and yes you can do better.

the new one.. grenada.. I'm sure I can do better.. but at what costs..

Do you want to experience the island or do you want to basically be on a resort and eat at the same places every day?
Of course, budget matters.
I do VRBO almost exclusively. Here is the villa we are staying at on St Maarten in March. You just can't get this setting from a resort.
$4k for eight nights.
