So, what would Obama call the Muslim Brotherhood? I don't recall him saying they were a bunch of violent imposters.

Why does Obama have to appeal to Muslims or appease them? I'm always told that the vast majority of them are peaceful anyway.

It's not about the name; it's about not pissing off an entire religion and giving them recruiting material. Think of it as locker room material.

He’s simply choosing a definition of Islam that he knows will reduce terrorist recruitment and damage ISIL’s rhetoric.
Not that he thinks it might or should or ....

Why doesn't Obama make appeals to Irish Catholics, Hindus, Greek Orthodox, Buddhist, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, etc? Why is his appeals always to Muslims? I mean, why should such a peaceful people always need appeasing?

I agree with the article and agree with the president.. Don't make this personal regarding a religion as nothing gets a zealot more fired up.. Try and control the narrative as much as you can and maybe you can when some public support.

Wait, which are they? Peace loving mild mannered people or zealots?

The concern should be for those that are fanatical regarding their religion but not necessarily willing to take up arms.. The ones you see chanting and protesting in streets, the children that are so easily influenced and the old guard that will fight if a righteous cleric calls for jihad.. We should not give them the weapon of propaganda to what is an unsophisticated population of people that are being taught to hate us.

I am okay with Obama on this. I agree with the original post.
And anyway it's great shite talk. Obama said you are not Muslim and we will defeat you. It's like saying "We are going to kill you and you will die for nothing."

It makes so much sense that we should apply it retroactively to history. Think the Muslims will buy that the Crusaders weren't really Christians? It's not like killing innocents was a tenet of Christianity, right?
How about we apply it to Mohammed? He wasn't killing all those people in the name of Islam because Islam didn't condone the killing of innocents. ISIL is doing the same thing Mohammed did, and he wrote the book. So either they are Islamic or Mohammed wasn't.

Everyone knows it's the religious ideology of their faith that causes them to want to kill infidels. Mohammed did it regularly and what adherent to a faith doesn't seek to mimic its greatest prophet? Those that say their hate is spurned only by our actions against them and has no root in religious ideology are nuts.

I can't believe that statement was understood any way but that way.

Jesus. I cannot believe that we're still stuck on this ridiculous "Obama is a muzzzzlum" schtick 6.75 years into his presidency.
The dude is as atheist as atheist can be.

No he isn't a muzzzzzlum. Just a Muslim. And yes, he might not follow that faith either?

I just don't know what to tell you. Do you really believe that the Clintons would have just allowed a Muslim to steal Hillary's 8 years in the White House if anything you say were true?
Do you really believe that Bill and Hillary would just sit back and not point out that the guy skipping Hillary's turn in line (and her sure victory over McCain in 2008) is actually a Muslim?

Why would Obama being a Muslim matter? It's the religion of peace ya know.
You say he isn't Muslim because he couldn't have been elected as one. Sounds like a great reason to hide it to me?!

I agree with most of that. I think he would have been better off saying that ISIS isn't mainstream Islam

I get it.
When U.S. Presidents say "religion of peace", etc.
We the U.S. people need to picture that president winking at us.
