Gotta go weedless

Guys, I realize that some places are made for weedless. I'm just saying that, when I use to fish hard, I used these spoons with success. I would try the black, silver, gold Johnson Weedless in different sizes, but the wobble rite and the cleo would out perform.

I've caught lots of red fish. I can't catch them on a spoon. It's the damnedest thing.

It's all good. I fish the Little Cleo's around jetties and in the surf, but since he mentioned Delacroix, forget about it. Typically 1'-2' of water and full of grass. Some ponds I fish down there, I literally use topwater frogs like bass fishing, because there's simply nothing else that will allow you to fish em. And there's reds in there, along with bass, and a redfish blowing up on a top-water frog is friggin AWESOME!

Also, it needs to be said that, IMO, weedless spoons in the marsh are COMPLETELY different baits/lures than the Little Cleo's or Krocodile spoons. They are meant to imitate different things, and therefore, the presentation is completely different. IMO, when I'm using a weedless spoon in the marsh, I'm imitating a small crab. If you cut a redfish open from where I fish, it's full of nothing but crabs. They wobble slightly when you reel them in slow and drag them across oyster beds, and I think they take em for small crabs.

On the other hand, I've surf fished or fished jetties with the Little Cleo type spoons and I think they're meant to imitate minnows.

And yes, I realize the Johnson spoons I use are called "Silver Minnow", but I think the reds in the marsh take em for crabs when presented with a slow wobble.

Do y'all put a swivel on the Johnson spoons or just tie it straight to the lure?

Never, but I don't use mono, so no issue with line memory. A swivel is just adding something else to go wrong.

Used to murder the reds in Montegut with 1/2oz gold/red wob l rite with hammered finish.

Since I've been fishing Hopedale area the last several years I've not gotten one red to bite on that bait

Hold rod tip down and try slow steady retrieve. It is not hard to do.

Snap swivel

Straight line to spoon twists my line up tighter than Josh Gordon rolls a joint.

Agreed. I've checked the snap swivel after fighting with a big red and it's been all jacked up, but I would rather risk losing a big red than pull my hair out fighting with a twisted line all day.

wobble rite
My dad refuses to call it a gold spoon. It's always been "wobble rite."

Quit using mono. Power Pro FTW.

I don't like powerpro on the baitcaster.

Why not? I've used nothing but since literally 2004, not one single issue with bait caster or spinning reels. Went fishing with Chad Dufrene in 2004 and got tired of him casting twenty feet farther, and watched him boat flip a friggin 10lb redfish. Started using power pro that day.
