If they can prove that NFL had access to this video.. Goodell could be fricked..
You can't be serious! You think TMZ got a hotel video that the NFL and police didn't?
No fricking way! I hope Goodell gets fired for this. That cocksucker is as corrupt as Nagin!
He suspended our players for nothing but WORDS to "protect" the league but lets this get a 2 game suspension? We list players and our coach for an entire year!
It should be bye bye to Rice and bye bye to the 49er too, for life.

The video adds a whole other element since his now wife refuses to speak out.. We really didnt have evidence that he struck her so forcefully as he could have pushed her.. The video, if available, makes Goodell seem completely out of touch and egregious in his duties as an impartial arbitrator within the confines of discipline..
But he did ban Sean Payton for a year!!

What proof do you need?
The police seized it THAT NIGHT, no doubt. Even if somehow he didn't see it, he was informed. But you bet your arse he saw it.
He just went light on Rice because his wife refused to press charges.
And you come at me for comprehensive abilities. Why don't you explain to us how there is ANY possibility the NFL hasn't seen this footage during the month+ investigation.

They ban one for taking Adderall for a year and a guy beats the shite out of his GF and gets two games??? NICE job NFL.
Banned for life. Nothing else will do.

How about the police saying.." We gave the NFL the tape".. Its that simple and until then its simple conjecture and here say.

Didn't the original punishment of 2 games follow the protocol for these situations since the prosecution decided not to charge Rice? I think the screw up was with the DA not pursuing it, but perhaps the girl didn't want to press charges.
It certainly brings to light some flaws in the NFL's punishment framework, but didn't they also just re-work it? I bet if Rice had been suspended longer than he was, the NFLPA would have appealed it and won.

Saw it this morning... fricking terrible.
I asked in the MSB thread, but the first comment on TMZ states that the police offered the video up to the NFL during their investigation and they said that they didn't want it, that it was irrelevant to their sentencing.
Is that true?

No doubt but unfortunately they choose the path of least resistance with the diversion program..

That's what I wasn't sure about.
I do remember Goodell, or someone with the NFL, saying they had access to the same evidence the police did, so I think both have seen this video. Odd that charges weren't filed, and in absence of that, I think the NFL's hands were tied.
And it pains me to say that because I hate the NFL organization. Love the game though.

Yeah, that was a pretty dumb move by Goodell. The PR fallout for the NFL has been rough, especially amid the media storm of criticism regarding concussion safety and the disproportionate punishment for the kid smoking pot. But I'd be willing to bet the NFL's ratings were through the roof yesterday.

The sad reality is that NFL players punching wives, girlfriends, women in general is nothing new. We're just in an age where there are cameras everywhere and countless media outlets dying to get their hands on anything they can portray as newsworthy. I think the fact that no criminal charges were brought had a big impact on the NFL's decision. I would be ok with two games if it didn't seem so insignificant compared to other suspensions doled out by the league. 4 games for drinking or doing drugs. A complete season for a "bounty program" that virtually every team in the league had.
The NFL made its decision and should not change it now. Realizing that it may have been a poor decision, they have changed the protocol going forward. There are a lot of good laws that come from initial "mistakes" in punishment. This is probably one of those instances.
However, let us not forget that while Rice participates in the NFL, he is EMPLOYED by the Baltimore Ravens. IMO, if the suspension should be increased it should come from the Ravens not the NFL. People are criticizing the League, but seemingly exonerating the actual employer from any responsibility

So what! You do it anyway and show the NFLPA where you stand on this crap.
I'm a Saints fan, but if a video surfaces of Brees punching his wife and dragging her by the hair, I don't ever want him in a Saints uni again!

Happy now? Surely you know better after reading everything.
But how dumb does one have to be to think the police didn't share the tape with the NFL. Actually, I would imagine the Loki e actually asked the NFL for past history on the guy.
