Lyons Yellin @LyonsYellin .@Saints announce 10 practice squad signings. S Pierre Warren among them. Also G Antoine McClain and TE Nic Jacobs @WWLTV STORY COMING

McClain, 6-5, 336, was originally signed as a free agent by the Baltimore Ravens out of Clemson following the 2012 NFL Draft. Despite not playing in a regular season game, he was on the Oakland Raiders active roster for the first six weeks of the 2013 regular season, before being acquired on waivers by Buffalo, where he was a backup lineman for the team's last 11 contests.

I honestly feel that Pierre Warren is better than what the Falcons have at FS.

STUNNED that the Falcons haven't signed one of our cuts yet.

I'm still confused how no team claimed him. He has starter potential. I think the reason he didn't make our 53 is b/c he doesn't play special teams.

Need to stress the potential part. He isn't ready to be a starter and was making his plays against backups. Any team that added him would need him to play special teams, which he doesn't (yet).
Yes he looked good at times but people are really overrating him. There's a reason he isn't on our 53 and that no one claimed him. He isn't the only guy in the league that flashed and still got cut. There are tons of guys like him.

Still surprised they took Wade and Frederick over Brooks but it's probably due to special teams.
And I guess that flash Strozier showed in game one that he didn't sustain wasn't enough to be worth keeping. Not as tough of a runner as Sproles was even though he showed quickness and speed. Also showed good hands but obviously isn't a guy that could ever pick up a blitz.
Still 2 corners and 2 receivers without any back is a little surprising.
Also surprised they kept Coleman and Jones over Hawkins. I guess they feel good enough about Stills and Cooks(and Morgan) to not be worried about needing a speed receiver on call, and must be more concerned about needing another big body with Colston aging and Toon not being proven yet.

@MikeTriplett: So #Saints go with a guard that began his career with #Ravens in 2012 and Ravens go with a G that began his career with Saints in 2012.
We swapped.

Glad to see Nic Jacobs signed. I think Warren ends up on the 53 as soon as this week once the Fortt and Lorig situations are settled, and if we decide to drop a QB.

We're not dropping a QB. I know people are upset about keeping 3 but they decided pretty early on that McCown was the backup and they'd keep Griffin around to develop.
And on Lorig and Fortt, unless I'm mistaken you can use normal IR right now so if one of them was going on normal IR it would have happened already.
Pretty evident that come tomorrow Lorig will go on IR- Designated to Return and Fortt will be an inactive (since we have to declare 7 each week anyway) until he is healthy. He must be close as he was on the side last week working with trainers so it isn't that serious, unlike Lorig who has yet to be seen.

I wouldn't be so certain that they plan on keeping 3 QBs for 16 games. I can see Griffin getting the Canfield/Daniel treatment. Has Payton ever kept 3 QBs for a full season?

They may keep three until they feel more comfortable with Griffen and then drop McCown. I dont see them dropping Griffen.

It's like we did with Daniel. The moment Payton is comfortable with Griffin, McCown is gone. Could be next week. Could be next month. Could be at the end of the season.
Posted on 9/1/14 at 5:05 pm to lsutigers1992
Right I think if they do eventually drop one it would be McCown. Payton likes Griffin to much to risk losing him.
The only way I see us dropping McCown is if injuries pile up and we need a healthy body at another position. Outside of that we keep 3.

Not the payoff people think.

Well that didn't take long. I'm sure we'll see Griffin on and off the roster a few more times throughout the season.

Yeah something I missed was the Rams claiming Keenum yesterday. With that out of the way the biggest threat to swipe of Griffin is (maybe) gone.
Who gets cut to put Griffin on the PS? Probably one of the CBs.
I also imagine this could mean that Johnson might go back on the PS once Lorig heals up. Must be closer than I thought for them not to IR him(which I still suspect may have been the move had the Rams not snatched up Keenum).
Not surprised Payton went with the more proven guy in Graham. That was my feeling all along, though I suspect he would have been almost as happy with Dimke.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see the Rams cut Keenum in order to claim Griffin, depending on how much they like him.
