Someone needs to embrace the lameness these ads express. Hire used car dealers to make them.

My wife and I were waiting to see how bad it would be this year and it didn't disappoint. We really need to highlight the education and not the sports. The commercial's run during a football game for Christ's sake, I think the viewer realizes we have a football team!
These must be done in house. My wife works in Louisiana tourism marketing and they make a few commercials (with a marketing firm) about some seriously boring places and they come out 10x's as interesting as these.

Agreed. We always highlight the sports. The commercials remind me of an Abita beer ad, not a university ad. They really just need to hire someone to make a half decent professional commercial.

The second I saw it come on, I was cringing. After it was over, I looked at everybody on the couch and laughed. It's horrendous. I will never understand the inability of a university with millions of marketing dollars at their disposal to make a decent commercial. It could be an overhead shot of the campus with Dan Bourne reading the pantheon of steel poem and I'd be far less embarrassed.

The folks from Boone, NC win by a furlong. No college wants the type of individual as a student that would be intrigued by that video.

Now that it's been brought up, I do wonder if the schools give the project to their own communications departments instead of a pro ad agency. They all have that homemade vibe to them.
To give this thread an update that no one will care about, the Stanford and USC(alifornia) commercials were actually very well done. And the Texas A&M commercial, while not a masterpiece, was pretty solid.
If college commercials are the new arms race, LSU looks to be falling behind.
