I think there is 0 chance they IR Lorig without the Designated To Return put on him.

I'm not so sure mccown is the better choice.

Of course Griffin looked uncomfortable in the pocket.
Even veteran QBs lose poise with that much pressure.

A few observations:

This roster is too thin on the left side of the OL. Who on this roster has the experience and ability to move to the left side, if one of those guys goes down?

I don't think we keep 3 NTs.

There's a great chance we keep 6 Safeties because of RRyans defensive schemes(Ball should make the cut).

I hope we don't keep 3 QBs (but you're probably right that we will). Griffin is not the future and isn't worth a roster spot. Cut him and hope he clears the waiver. If he doesn't, so be it.

Any updates on Stills?

I feel like we can save Toon's spot for someone more worthy but with Stills always being hurt I can see us keeping 6 WRs

People have to remember that the bottom of the roster...the last 3-5 spots or so will be pretty fluid.

You're going to have guys added and coming off depending on availability, injury, etc.

I think we'll be combing the waiver wire and we'll bring another LT in.

Why would they waste it on him?

That'd be pretty horrible decision imo.

I expect we save it or put stills on it.

If RGIV didn't beat out Luke this year, not sure why he would next year. This should have been his big year. He did OK but not well enough. Time to probably let that bird fly.

A whole lot of replies to make so I'll try to do it in one post.

Only one guy can go on IR and be designated to return. I don't see them using that on a FB especially since Johnson has proven quite capable.

On the left side of the Oline, Harris plays both tackle spots but I didn't want to list him twice. Jones, Lelito, and Goodwin could all play left or right guard.

On NT, we kept 7 Dlinemen last year and while I'm not 100% on Deaderick he did get some first string reps and we have no other DEs to speak of. Possible we only go 6 there but I think they'll go 7.

Very possible we keep 6 safeties and I'm very torn between Ball and Warren if we only keep 5. One of the hardest decisions.

We're not going to IR Stills with the designation to return. He would have to miss at least at weeks and his injury is not that bad.

Why Fortt? Is there a better option? Lorig is possible and I guess if Ball is hurt enough he would be the guy instead.

Griffin isn't on here because I like him. I said he was mediocre last year while everyone was raving about him. This is purely what I think the Saints will do and not what I would do.

Thinking the same. I said before camp if he can't beat him this year wish him luck.

I think we have been thin at LT all off season and camp. Will be very hard to find a LT released that isn't warm poo. Best chance would be a trade for a LT on someone's bench.

does the designated to return player have to be indicated now? Can't they save it for the season in case someone gets a 6 week or so injury?

Isn't it 6 to 8 weeks?

Still injured himself at the middle of july didnt he? That's like 6 weeks already and he re aggravated it; only thing that will fix quad is time. I'd just let him rest but I don't know the seriousness of the aggravation

I would just put fortt on IR

Still say you're wrong, Payton is really high on Lorig and brought him for a reason. He will play this year.

PUP is 6 weeks and IR with return is 8 weeks.

Stills reaggravated it twice so it isn't like it won't heal. It's that he pushed just a little too soon. It isn't an 8 week injury. We have a week before the season and he should be good at least by week 3 so that gives him a good while to get healthy.

On if you can use it in season, I'm not sure. If you can then he I agree to save it and use it in case of emergency.

On Lorig, he hasn't even been seen since the black and gold scrimmage. That is not a good sign. And Payton spoke highly of Johnson so I think he likes him enough to roll with him.

I sort of agree with you, but there's a good chance that at 33 Luke McCown has plateaued, and at 24 Griffin has some room to get better.

Yes, they can be placed on IR Designated to Return after the season starts.

Dimke fully believes he's going to make this roster. He said he's excited about today and has no worries

Kicker is one of the least sure spots I picked. I know Payton values a proven track record but this could be a case where they hope they have a long term solution. Neither guy made this easy.

On the IR thing, if that's the case then I think they save it.

On the bottom of the roster, you're right the bottom 2-4 spots turnover a lot during the year. I think the top 50 is set but I can definitely see some guys bouncing on and off the PS or us picking up a guy or two from another team if injuries strike.

Agreed. First of all McCown hasn't looked flat-out fantastic. He just seems to have a small edge on Griffin. If CSP thinks Griffin can be something in the future and only wants two qbs on the 53, I say get rid of McCown. Since 2006 how many times have our backup qbs had to come in for an injured Brees? If I recall its probably zero.
