If you are a pg and you take 30 shots you have some 'splainin to do.

Say he's 0 for 20. What else should he do? Should he take himself out? Not take open shots?

It's a terrible point. He'd rather keep shooting and hurting his team because he's Kobe frickin Bryant. Nothing admirable about that.

You obviously don't understand what he's saying then. You just saw "Kobe" and "0-30"

Haha no it's not. Especially in regards to deron Williams, a point guard who doesn't shoot that much in the first place.

It's not about Deron Williams.

I understand exactly what he's saying. He didn't say if he's 0-9 he's going to keep shooting. We know the results of the next 21 shots.

Not at all what he's saying. He'd rather look back at his stats and see 0-30 than 0-9 is what he's saying. Because it means he continued to be aggressive. When you're as good as Kobe Bryant is/was then you should always be aggressive

That's selfish and stupid. Sounds exactly like something Kobe would say though. He'd rather try to get stats than do what's best for the team.

I don't see where I'm missing his point. We are talking about the same thing

What is better for your team? To go 0-30 and still have your pride or go 0-9 and maybe your teammates can do better? The answer is obvious. Kobe would rather be known as a killer than a winner, he just happened to do both.

His whole point is that he's not going to let himself get taken out of the game mentally because he had a rough start.

Some of you guys are taking this way too literally.

He said he'd rather go 0-30. So he'd rather "not be taken out of the game mentally" while wasting possessions for his team. That is selfish and stupid.

It's a literal statement. I guess we should just not talk about it, back to work

What's the cut off where he should stop shooting?

Avoiding the question.

0 for 30 is selfish and stupid. 0 for 29 ain't.

I didn't avoid the question. You just don't like the answer.

You know damn well what I'm saying about insisting on going 0-30 being selfish is correct.

Wow there are a lot of people in this thread who need remedial lessons in reading comprehension.

Kobe was using a STAT as a visible basis for making the point that a player should never quit on himself and by extension his team.

Never quit on yourself. Winning takes confidence that you WILL overcome.

I think his ring count validates him as more of an expert on this than anyone on this board.

Your answer was as vague as it could possibly be. It's not an answer.

The point is, when is it appropriate for your star player to shut it down?

I tend to agree with him. I want my best player taking shots, whether he's hitting them or not. Obviously, I don't want him taking fade away threes, but if he is getting open looks and taking them, I don't see an issue. Your best player shouldn't be afraid to shoot. Being afraid to shoot because your confidence is shaken is worse than shooting and missing.

What would you have him do? At what point should he shut it down?

For once I agree with you

Being 0-10 doesn't make it any more likely that I'd rather Steve Blake handling the ball or want Nick Young dominating a final possession.
