That says nothing. A Cleveland line-up is #2. And they were bad last year.
The Pelicans were 6-5 when all of their best players were healthy. Holiday, Davis, Anderson, Evans, and Gordon.
And those wins were against Philly, Utah, Cleveland, Philly, Knicks, and Sacramento. All some of the worst teams in the league. Any time they played a decent team, they lost. Those came against the Spurs, Warriors, Clippers, Blazers, and Timberwolves.
The team was average at best, even when healthy. Although that is a very small sample size.
Ryno/Tyreke were not 100% during that stretch(the latter is partly monty too)
All of those teams also had a solid center will we had fricking steimsma.
That's a little different now.
This team has the parts,it's up to the coaching.

quote:Don't think we'll miss him at all. His rebounding has been more than replaced, and despite his physical tools, he was never actually good defensively. Sure he's versatile, if just having a lanky body on the court is what you're looking for. People keep bringing up his role, but I don't know how much less we could have possibly asked from the guy. Just defend and run, and he failed over and over again.
To be honest, we are going to miss his rebounding, versatility, and defense.
I just don't get what people are talking about when they say Dallas is going to limit his role and he'll be more effective. Limit his role to what? Simply standing on the court so there are enough people to play the game? That's just barely more than we asked him to do.
Then there's the basketball IQ of a rock...

In total. Certainly not from the wing spot. When Asik sits, there will be problems.

No one on this team last year was actually good defensively.

Because Carlisle is better than Monty. People here were taking about bringing in Marion as a good move. Aminu is basically the same player as old Marion.

quote:Sure, but I still haven't heard what this unbearable load was that Aminu was asked to carry. Was being the last option on offense too much to ask?
Because Carlisle is better than Monty.
quote:He's Marion minus the brain, ball handling ability, occasional shooting ability, and at the very least, knowledge of defense, even if he can't do it physically anymore.

Aminu's hot garbage. Dont know why we're trying to pretend otherwise. Two teams have already given up on him and now he gets a league minimum contract at the back end of free agency and we act like Dallas pulled one over on the Pelicans? For a dollar more than Dallas offered, every other team in the league could have had him.
If he goes to Dallas and does ANYTHING other than rebound well, congrats. Put another one down for Carlisle's genius, I guess.
But who gets credit for Jason Smith, Robin Lopez, Anthony Morrow, Brian Roberts, Marco Belinelli, Greivis Vasquez...?
Seems this staff has done an ok job pulling careers out of dumpsters. They gave Aminu three years.

He stood out because he was 1 of 2 non threats, kind of like how Vasquez and Lopez amplified each others weaknesses by playing together. Tyson Chandler may not be a shooter, but he still has to be accounted for and will likely be involved in the P&R as opposed to Stiemsma who would park himself at the 3 point line while his defender laughed at him from the elbow. Aminu also got the blame for guys SFs able to switch over and harass Ryno, I don't think quicker defenders cause Dirk the same problems as they caused Anderson. Aminu won't necessarily be better, but his weaknesses won't be as exposed.

12 kinda looks like "R", dumb internet lingo.

No, it really doesn't. This is just something young people say to make old people feel older than they are. I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

It's only a matter of time until you're making bird houses.

Not quite true. He's not a stopper by any stretch like some believe, but he is credible. It's just tough to gauge because all of them were lost on defense. Maybe they're all dumb or lazy or just bad at defense.
Be mildly surprised if Evans or any of the other wings are better.

Surestill haven't heard what this unbearable load was that Aminu was asked to carry.
Hyperbole much? No one is saying he is particularly good, just miscast a bit as a starting sf in a traditional lineup. Go look up his numbers with Anderson. Then his numbers with Anderson and Evans. Playing him without a stretch 4 is a problem because of his flaws. That's not a reason to keep him, but it does show he can bring value to a team.
quote:
we act like Dallas pulled one over on the Pelicans?
Again, hyperbole much? No one is saying that. Just that it's a good bet for Dallas- they get a younger and cheaper replacement for Marion. Clearly the league understands his value because he only got a vet minimum as a 23 yo 2+ year starter. He isn't a key piece and no one expects him to be one

No one is dogging Monty. Sometimes players don't work out. No one thinks they didn't do their best with him. shite happens. No reason to lose your mind because of it.
He's a 23 yo rangy wing with one elite skill and the potential to be a good defender. He had used up his time here. Dallas got him for a very cheap price to be a backup 3/4. He could still be a useful player. If not, it is a very small price and not a big deal. The end
