Montana at 40 is kind of ridiculous. I just got back from there and they had some of the best craft beer I've had

Really? Some of my family members that live there have been holding out. What great breweries are there and what should I ask them to bring when they come to visit this fall.

Avondale, Good People, Straight to Ale, Fairhope, Cahaba, Blue Pants, there's a bunch more I'm missing off the top of my head.

Mississippi is deserving of last place IMO. For now. I'd look for that to change soon.

Straight to Ale brews good stuff.

It is not only the AL brewed stuff you should ask for though, several great breweries that don't yet distribute to LA distribute to AL. Bells, Great Divide, Avery and Oskar Blues come to mind.

I'll add Westbrook and Cigar City to the list of breweries that distribute to AL and not LA.

Westbrook, absolutely. I found Westbrook's IPA at Cottage Hill in January of 2013 and brought back a case for the local Krewe to try. We'd never heard of it. Westbrook was my best new discovery beer of 2013.

I did not realize that CC had made it to AL.

Yeah, I remember you "discovering" Westbrook IPA. I had not heard of it either and was down there a few weeks later. It's been one of my favorite IPAs ever since, and I've come to appreciate a lot of the other brews they put out. (Gose, One Claw, Shane's Big DIPA)

CCB distributes Jai Alai, their brown, and a couple other offerings to Alabama.

One Claw is their best regular release, IMO. It's perfect for my palate.

For the people that say Mississippi deserves last place I'll put SoPro and Crooked Letter up against Parish, NOLA, and Great Raft. I think they'll compare quite favorably.

Assuming I find it fresh, there will be a 6er in your box. Sure hope I do.

I think the difference is probably Abita. Although not popular among mavens, it is the only brewery in either state that is widely distributed to other states.

But you're absolutely right. And that's sad.

A bit a is distributed up here and doesn't have a terrible reputation. They aren't viewed as great, by any means, but are easy drinking gateway beers.
