These challenges - such as this ice bucket "stuff" - are spreading like wildfire on the idiot's channel, otherwise known as FB. Why not just give money instead of talking about it?

$31 million dollars and counting is why. You think the ALSA would have raised that much just by people giving out of the goodness of their hearts? Of course not. That's why we have benefit galas and 5Ks and golf scrambles, etc. It draws attention to the cause, regardless of the motivation. A 1000% increase in donations compared to this time last year speaks for itself.
And as someone who has a good friend of mine now confined to a wheelchair thanks to ALS, you can GFY.

The videos are annoying, but donations are way up. Just wish people would look into how to donate money or time locally as the trickle down from the large organizations to the families is very minimal. Funding for research is great but most of these people don't have time to wait on research. They have immediate needs that could be met on the local level. Also, just really sick of attention whores. Is it not possible to donate when challenged without the videos?
