Anyone hear the excellent analysis of this video on Anderson Cooper?

Anderson and his guest are saying "he didnt really lunge at them." "If the cops knew the neighborhood better maybe they would have known the man was mentally disturbed and it wouldn't have come to this."

Wow.

I plugged my earhones in and watched it again and I agree: the cops repeatedly say to him "drop the knife. Drop it!"

Suicide by cops.

Its really laughable that no one feels the need to stop him when he stole the drinks, or when the shop owner is yelling about a thief. But a cop kills him when he is advancing on them and yelling shoot me, and the whole community becomes defense lawyers offering options on how the police could have done their job better.

Police your own fricking people.

fricking behave.

Without a tazer, the only other option the cops had with him advancing would be to give him ground. I've never had formal defensive shooting classes, much less LE training, but I'm guessing that part of that training is giving ground as a means to keep from shooting an attacker is a no-no.

If you are stepping backwards away from an attacker and trip over something, you are pretty much dead.

If he is so mentally disturbed that his actions of stealing and taunting police should be considered commonplace, then why should he be allowed to live?

What benefit does this planet have when he is living?

Now, we can discuss the DECISION to shoot. But, once you decide to shoot...center mass, grouped, fire until the threat is 'neutralized'.

Yep. Broward County sheriff was on the radio this am and asked if police are taught to shoot an arm or leg if someone charges them (due to the initial shots to Brown being in the arm).

Sheriff said never. Said all officers are trained in the importance of NEVER trying to "wing" someone coming at them that is a threat. Center mass shots only until the person stops coming. Period.

From watching it, I really think this guy stole the sodas just to get suicide by cop in Ferguson to further the chaos, and I personally think the dude filming might have been in cohorts to take the video from far enough away to cause immense speculation on it

BHP - glad I caught you here - please put that out at the next black folks meeting - "Do NOT rush at the white cops y'all - they're just waiting for an excuse. That's all I'm saying."

They won't listen to me - maybe they'll listen to you.

I strongly disagree with this whole "they should have tased him" notion. Tasing works under optimal conditions - close range, thin clothing, normal sized person, not moving, etc. Trying to tase someone that eratic and aggressive, constantly moving with no knowledge of if they are armed or drugged, is asking to get killed yourself. If both prongs dont hit accurately and directly, it could be you lying on the ground motionless. I do not agree with the tasing option in these situations.

Isn't this why you all have Obama phones? Seems like a good use of text messaging.

Any chance on tasing him was lost when he advanced on the officers.

Now had he simply stood his ground it would have allowed time for one officer to holster his weapon and unholster the taser while the other officer provided cover. This was a suicide mission.

Side note:

We are several years into the smart phone age.

Why can't people learn to hold their phone in landscape for video?

No cop in their right mind is going to attempt to deploy a taser on a threat advancing on them with a knife. That's playing Russian roulette with your life. Also as another poster pointed out, he is wearing bulky clothing that makes getting good contact with the probes almost impossible.

This second shooting only proves no one learned anything from the first.

The police should not be taking steps to decrease their violence if the people of the community are increasing theirs. The police are here to keep the community safe. Its safer, despite their best protests.
