I hear women say this when getting excited about seeing a newborn/toddler. No clue where it come from or what it means (if anything). Seems a recent thing.

You live in Louisiana and you don't know what "sha baby" means?

I think it's technically cher baby, which is French for beloved or dear. But people that don't know any better type or write it sha.

I'm pretty sure it means "now might be a good time for you to marry the father since the baby has arrived."

I noticed it used in my thread about my son the other day. I've lived in Louisiana since birth and didn't know what it meant either. My wife knew though.

I learned how different north of I10 is when I moved to Baton Rouge and said the word Parrain, and I got blank stares. These were catholic school kids with french last names (although they pronounced them Tray-han, Burjer-on, etc.). My family doesn't go around speaking cajun french (although all my grandparents spoke it), but I definitely know what these common phrases mean. I didn't realize people that lived so close never used that terminoligy.

You are obviously not from south Louisiana. Also, you must have just moved here. How long have you been here? I'm originally from New Iberia and have been hearing this my whole life (still do living in Lafayette).
