our led light was off ebay. I think a 30" is a little overkill. I want to say we have an 18"

Ebay is the place to buy them. They are all the same specs.

Rigid /thread.

Keep in mind though, if you run big water, the brightest light you can buy won't light it up if you've got nothing for it to reflect off of.

Did you put it in an aluminum housing?

I'm thinking I'll just get an strip of aluminum sheet and bend it to fit over the light and use it to attach the light at the same time.

Not to start any crap, but do ya'll run navigable waterways with these spotlights always on? I understand they may help you see but a lot of people don't realize it blinds others who may be running around you.

Hell, my own light blinds me half the time. Like someone mentioned, if you aren't close enough to see land, it's actually worse to have lights than not.

Yesir, that's my point. I have done a lot of running at night and have found unless there is absolutely 0 moon and low heavy clouds you are better off running with just your nav lights and any instruments dimmed way down to let your eyes adjust. Not only do spotlights blind other boaters but I believe some people get a false sense of security running with them because they don't realize they are totally blind passed the relatively short distance their beam is throwing and if they are on plane that distance can be covered way to quickly to react.

Agree 100%

Eta: but some bright arse lights are very helpful when pulling up to the blind, putting out deeks, etc.

No doubt they definitely have there time and place but people using them while making relatively easy runs down places like Bayou Terre aux Boeuf with a full moon is a big pet peeve of mine. But hey, I guess it is safer then the yahoo's running 12-14ft skiffs with no running lights at all.

30" is a lottttt

have a 7" kawell spotlight on the front of ours, 36w, bright enough to run wide open in the swamp at night. $40 on amazon.

You could get a little bigger one or 2 of those and I really couldn't see ever needing any more than that in a mud boat. It's not like you're going that fast.

I do but I cut it off when I see another boat.

It helps in small bayous a lot, it's not hard to see the banks without a light but it helps see turns and stumps way ahead of time. Mine lights up pretty damn far and the boat with 1 person and no gear can't go any faster than about 26 anyway.

I hate the guys that will run right past you with an ungodly amount of light on their bow aimed right at eye level and not think twice. fricking seeing green blobs floating for the next 10 minutes looking for frogs and can't make out shite
