Friend in a Houston looking to buy engagement ring. Suggestions for someone local or best to find online?

I already had a setting that had CZ in it, but I looked at diamonds at Shaftel Diamond Co. on Richmond.

I ended up just buying the loose diamond at bluenile.com and took it to Zadok Jewelers on Post Oak to get it set.

IMO, online is the way to go for loose stones. I would consider online for rings as well, but it would maybe be a little helpful to see things in person too.

Jonathan's on Richmond. Bought it loose, picked out a setting at Zadok and had them build to match. Turned out great and was half the cost of retail.

In Houston I'd go to Brian Gavin Diamonds. The service he will receive is amazing. I bought my wife's ring from them, and the quality of his diamonds are unreal. She constantly gets compliments on how it sparkles. The good thing is he can pick one or several out, and actually go to their office and they will go through the different ones with him.

If he can't afford the prices then he can hit up Jared's or possibly Zadok's.

Find the diamond on: LINK /

Ended up getting mine from b2c, couldn't be happier. They have a return policy if you're skittish.

I can give you the name of a woman here in Baton Rouge who has been selling diamonds and rings for something like 30 years. She has connections directly with the distributor and does it out of her house so no overhead. Guarantee you can get same quality for half the price or less. She gets multiple diamonds based on your budget and shape preference and then she lets you pick which one.

Throwing this out there....

Anyone in BR area needs to visit Jeff Parker at Anton's on Coursey.

Get the diamond online from blue Nile. Familiarize yourself with the measurements of a good diamond. Get the setting locally.

Go to the Good Old Gold website and research. You can learn a lot there. Also, it is cheaper to buy online (yes you can return if don't like).

Another Houston guy is Ronnie Hoffman. He deals loose stones and has people that will design a setting for you. I think he works out of Greenway Plaza. My advice if you go this route is to get pick out a setting you have in mind before you go in to see these guys, otherwise you're just wasting both yours and their time. Good luck!
