Mett actually looked really good moving in the pocket last night. He had one play where he held the ball too long but other that that he managed the pocket extremely well.

He didn't hold onto the ball very long on the fumble. He should have taken a sack, but that was more Galette making a play than Mett holding the ball too long, IMO.

Other than the bad read on the pick to Sunseri, Mett made excellent decisions with the ball, some really awesome throws, and moved well in the pocket. He looked like he was the best qb the titans put out there last night to me. If you give that guy some blocking and nfl receivers we all know what he is capable of doing.

Lack of mobility didn't hurt Payton, Brees and a number of other very good quarterbacks

Sorry, but I disagree with that. Kapernick, RG3, Alex Smith, Cam Newton have all been "suspect" at best. Russell Wilson has been successful because although they rely on defense and running the ball, he knows how to play in the pocket. Cam Newton comes close, because although he is not consistent throwing the ball, he can kill you with his legs regardless. The rest of the guys listed above that are considered "dual threat" or mobile, have been suspect at best when it comes to throwing the ball and have relied on strong defense and running games. If Kapernick was a better passer, 49ers would have been to the superbowl at least one more time in the last four years, and at least won one of them, with that defense and running game. Randall Cunningham, steve young, and Michael Vick were the last QB's I considered true dual threats, as they were true threats running and passing accurately and consistently. Drew Brees, Eli manning, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Joe Flacco, Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford are all considered of average or below average mobility, and not dual threats. Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Andy Dalton, and ben Roethlisburger, are all at average/above average mobility, but all play in the pocket, and pass the ball accurately. Every once in a while they can make a play using there legs, but 90% of the time they are in the pocket. Ryan Tannehill is up and coming, and has above average mobility, but smart guy that he is, you don't see him running very much, you see him throwing from the pocket. He's smart enough to realize that in the NFL defenses will break you up quickly trying to run, so he plays in the pocket, same as the less mobile QB's. Zach has as good a chance or possibly better in the long run as any of these young new QB's, because he understands that in the pro's, the game is played and won from the pocket majority of the time.

I don't put that fumble on Mett - just a good play by DE. He was in his throwing motion and DE reached from directly behind him to hit his arm as he started his throwing motion. I actually thought it might have been an incomplete pass but nobody seemed to get to riled about the call. No way any QB takes the sack in that instance.

Congrats to Mett on the solid game , i knew he had an NFL future the first time he was able to let loose as a tiger in mop up duty. If hes able to stay injury free and keeps improving on his pocket awareness he will start for someone in this league if he dont unseat locker.

dude has an absolute cannon. mobility won't be an issue as long as his pocket presence improves. manning, brady, and brees all have the ability to manipulate the pocket. If Mett can add that then look out.

Can Newton is a great passer then? No

Cam is a playmaker that relies on great defense and running game. Running game and defense is how they won the south last year, instead of trying to win it off Newtons passing abilities alone.

How significant was Coach Cam's influence in the development of Mett as an NFL caliber QB? Will AJ and BH have similar development?

Well, technically, this does have some truth to it- there are very few pocket passers coming into the league right now. But to me, that just places a premium on those that are.

You have a defined window of time where the NFL QB will be dependably "elite"; that's after a couple years experience so the defense can't confuse him, but he still needs to be at his physical prime.

Problem with the mobile guys are 2-fold; 1st off their game exposes them to more hits and thus increases risk of injury/loss of playing time. 2nd is that their elusiveness and overall athleticism will decline over time, as their knowledge of the game increases. Newton, Kaepernick and Wilson won't be running away from people at 30, while Brees, Brady and Manning were all in their prime then. You have another 5+ years with the pocket guys, while you better have a replacement groomed for the mobile ones.

Think that's not true? Look at Brees and Vick, just from a physical standpoint. Brees is still great to build around, while Vick lost his job to Fowles in large part due to lack of durability. And most of the running guys don't have the physical talent Vick had.

Mett may never start in the NFL, but to me, he's a better longterm project than Manziel, RG3, Newton or the rest. If you get him a line and he can learn the playbook, he can physically play a long time.

I think, if put behind a good offensive line, he could be a high-quality starter in the league for a while. Star? Ehh... We'll see.
