Mobil 1 synthetic. No complaints.

I've heard good things about Amsoil.

Do whatever the manual says.

If it says use conventional and change when the light comes on, do that. You don't have to match brands, but make sure you meet the same certs and change it either when the manual tells you to or when the dash light tells you to if you have one.

Eta: using synthetic in an older engine (especially a diesel) is pretty much a waste and you shouldn't extend your intervals.

Wrong..not a waste by any means. Intervals shouldn't be extended in any form - although some oils, spefically synthetics, can handle it but what people tend to forget is that the oil filter can't go that same interval.

Might want to give your vehicle a good look over, especially some of the "chain" places. Has the drain bolt been sufficiently torqued? Or over torqued, resulting in warpage of the drain pan? Was the oil filter even changed - did you mark it to make sure? Was the oil even changed? How do you know? Over/underfilled? Correct weight oil? Was the oil cap replaced? Tools left behind?

A friend of mine decided to use one of those national chain lube centers (starts with a "J"...) even after being warned. They over-torqued the bolt which resulted in a warped oil pan AND as if that weren't enough, they left off the oil cap... Yep, quality service right there...

you are all fools if you arent getting mobil 1 synthetic by the gallon at walmart for $25.99 and using wix filters. Motorcraft is good filters as well.
FUMOTO drain valve on mine so no torqued drain plug required.

Where are you located? Just curious because of the different weights used...

True. I have been running it in my Tacoma since day one of taking it home from the dealer brand new. But, I use the Toyota filters because they have proven to be the best one can find. Never tried a Fumoto, but I always torque mine so that's not an issue.

One thing that I have read about the Fumoto valve is that for those pans where the drain bolt (like in my Tacoma) is on the bottom of the pan, part of the valve sticks up into the pan resulting in less oil being drained versus the conventional method. Ever heard that?

conventional
i have them change it every 5k miles

read several reports based on tests a while back saying 99% of conventional oils are good to at least 5k miles and the whole 3k miles thing is a crock

i've never had a problem through my last 3 vehicles

Yup.

Tried Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Twice the price, no reason to do that again. Change oil every 5-6K.

i've had one on my 07 Tacoma 4.0l since new. About to turn 150,000 miles. Easiest oil change ever. Have a hose connected to the nipple under the oil filter housing runs out the driver wheel well so i can drain filter into a jug, fumoto valve so i can drain oil into a jug.
No tools.

no,not even close to the truth. Not sure where people are getting this from. What you gonna lose? like maybe a cup of old oil stays in the pan? Whoop-t-frickin-doo

Have thought about getting one, I have to admit. Tacoma's are ridiculously easy to work on. Do you keep the hose attached permantly?

150K on an '07? Dang, that is a lot of miles. Mine is an '08 Dbl cab v6 and it is about to turn 70K.

You on Tacomaworld? I have used fortech's and mountain lions write ups to change the trans fluid (now recommended at 60K). Excellent site.
