Back stabs are a bit tricky at first, but by the end of the first black knight fight and the boar fight, you should have it down pretty well.

Is it possible to sell stuff? I keep picking up all these hollow armor pieces and throwing them in my bottomless box

Eventually but not now. It's all worthless atm. You don't need 10x hollow man belts

There it is. When I learned to parry I got exponentially better.

Get the biggest, baddest mofo of a shield you can find, the rest of your armor is damn near worthless, unless it bestows some awesome attributes. No matter what armor you have most enemies can one or two hit kill you anyhow, you're better off not having a set of armor weigh you down.

I've tried once or twice to parry, but I haven't quite gotten it down. Is it only for using against ranged attacks or is it anytime?

You parry humanoids, I.e., hollows, knights, etc. and it is used to deflect close ranged attacks. It's just about timing; with most , you'll need to attempt to parry about halfway through an enemy's attack animation. I would suggest you practice at it, to avoid playing the game like a hack and slash.

You can beat the game without parrying. I was awful at it. Didn't even parry the last boss.

Although it is fun

I learned how to on playthrough 3.

Last boss was so simple with soul spears. Killed him in like 10 seconds

I'm stuck on Gwyn with sl1 playthrough. I can usually parry the shite out of him; never in a thousand years did I think I'd have this much trouble.

I'm at those gargoyles. I can do pretty well until the second one shows up and starts breathing fire.

As for the black knights, I could never seem to pull off a backstab on the one on the tower. I ended up beating him though.

Another suicide from that giant knight with bigass shield and mace that's at the altar inside the church

Summoning Solaire helps with the gargs. His sign is right before the zone in.

Gotta try and beat down the first garg as quickly as possible before the second shows up. Then he'll start breathing fire and can use him to block the second.

You can't be an undead. The signs only appear after you use a humanity.

If you're playing online and human, be prepared to be invaded by assholes with late-game equipment and spamming Wrath of the Gods.
