The whole fish from Parrains is good.
This was the first thing to come to mind. Plus their fries are really good too.

Matherne's deli has really good catfish
Matherne's on Bluebonnet does have good fried catfish. You beat me to it.

A little off the radar, but Goodwood Grill at the corner of Goodwood and Tara has become my Friday night catfish go-to place. One order will feed two people.
And the fried shrimp.

Mason's grill has some pretty solid fried catfish.

The Chimes used to be my favorite until they started getting super stingy with the amount they give you. It used to be several monster filets, now its like 2 peices that can be taken out in 2-3 bites each. They still cook them exactly how I like it, but I feel like I'm getting stiffed for the price.

I love the Matherne's fried catfish in their deli.

Riverside Patty believe it or not did a really good fried fish box IMO, but it's not something I get that often. Not a fan of Crawfords at all though.

Several Matherne's recs. Any particular time(s) of day to buy it? Is it reliably available and consistent?

Lafleur's in Denham Springs has good catfish. I don't know if this is still the case but they used to get fresh fish every day. The time from swimming to hitting your plate was like 12-18 hours.

After all of the recommendations I tried it for lunch today around 1 and it was nice and crisp, definitely better than Crawford's.
I'll be trying the others over the next few weeks.
