Whatever jackass, there's a whole LD testimonial thread and it's well deserved. You are too caught up in your preconceptions to have a rational discussion.

I swore after McBride retired I wouldn't let myself get that sad over a retirement again...today I realized I lied to myself. Sad day. And if you agree or disagree witg jurgens decision it still really sucks he couldn't be there this year even if it was his on doing or a screw job...his career deserved that swan song

Can you read? I have done nothing but complement him today. In fact, I've pretty much said that I was a bit too harsh on him a lot of the time and explained why. I've also said several times that no one is near him in the US Soccer/MLS pantheon. That's the opposite of standing by my stupid case. You're just too busy whining about literally nothing to understand that.

You opened with being bittersweet about it and always criticizing him. There was no reason for that even.

My point was that even though I've been a dick about him from time to time, this really made me sad. I thought it showed how big of a deal it was that even I was openly bummed about it even though I'd been critical. That's all I meant. Bittersweet was the wrong word to use. There's nothing wrong with me admitting to giving him shite from time to time. That was me saying, "Man, I gave this guy shite, but I'm going to miss watching him play."

Fair enough. I was just hoping this would be a thread full of only positive memories, videos, etc.

Uway jumped in and talked about his "quasi-philosophical" stuff and Landon being cocky.

If Bruce cries, then we are all allowed to cry.

Bruce should never have to apologize for getting emotional over Donovan retiring.

Landon Donovan would have been bad for the locker room in Brazil... obviously

Man, if this is indeed Titi's last season as well, it puts a new perspective on the Dempsey and Bradley signings, from a marketing standpoint. Defoe, Villa, Lampard, Kaká as well, just to name a few, along with re-signing guys like Besler and Zusi.

It's too bad if the JJ deal falls through like Mix's deal.

Despite the recent old guard of MLS, Beckham, Donovan, and Henry on their ways out of the league, the future is bright for MLS.

Holy frick that video was moving. I really appreciate genuine expressions of emotion in sports. Bruce sounded like a very proud father. It sounds like Donovan is really happy with his decision. I'm glad for him.

Here was one of the moments, among others, when Donovan made me so excited that I nearly cried. LINK

I remember being so excited and thinking that we were going to beat Brazil, that US soccer finally made it. We were going to beat Brazil...

Then there was this goal.
LINK

I ran around my house two or three times after we scored. I like to think the excitement of that game set the groundwork for the massive amount of support the U.S. got this time around.

Wow, Bruce.

That said it all.

And I just realized today, I will never get to see him play in person. I was so hoping he might play in a few more USMNT friendlies and hopefully one would be close by.

Damn. Sad day for LD fans, but it sounds like he is at peace and has plans he is excited for.

I hope Bruce is right and he gets into coaching.

How fricking awesome would it be for LD to be the coach of the USMNT one day?

I don't know if his personality let's him do that. I think he'd be great as a youth technical director.

Go to one of the MLS games. The closest ones left are in Columbus on 8/16 and one in Dallas a little later on.

I never got to see him either. I thought I would see him at the Nigeria friendly when Timmy got his 100th cap.

I do not think that would be the right role for him.

I think the Bruce Arena video really says all you ever need to know.

I do feel fortunate that I've seen him play for the US eight times, including his hat trick against Scotland and final (probably) US goal against Mexico in Columbus.

I'm buying my sister tickets to take my nephew to see him in MLS before he's gone.
