Chances that Donovan gets a USA testimonial match?

O/U set at 30%

A lot of stuff was said. I generally remember it as a time when one contingent blamed it all on the coach and the other said Landon shared some of the blame.
Looking back I really wish the relationship hadn't gone south, regardless of who is to blame. We could have used him in Brazil.

This is exactly how it went down. Both before and after the cut, I was clear that he should be there. I said that I thought he'd probably even start. Yet, I've been accused multiple times of shitting on him constantly.

He gets one. I'd be very shocked if he doesn't. Jurgen may not like him, and he may not like Jurgen. The fact remains that Jurgen can't ignore the contribution he gave us for many years. With LD's status here, he'll get the Jordan send-off. Every match in a city he plays for the last time, there'll be a tribute of some sort.

If Jurgen doesn't at least offer it, then I don't think there's any repairing my view of the guy.

Then again, he let a personal vendetta diminish his roster for the World fricking Cup, so I'm not putting anything past him.

Well you did admit to doing exactly that earlier in this thread, so...

He needs to be honored in a significant way by US Soccer. If klinsmann tries to impede that in some way then Gulati needs to grow a pair and step in and make it happen. I dont think it will come to that though.

I said I gave him shite and was critical from time to time. In a world of hyperbole, that could maybe be translated as "shitting on him constantly".

Sheesh. At least he's let it go.

He was directly asked about it. He didn't bring it up out of nowhere.

I mean, it was a poor decision. It was always a poor decision.

I can't even imagine an argument being made in support of it at this point.

I remember during the Mexico friendly when everyone was saying how Landon looked fat and out of shape, I asked "there's no way Jurgen leaves him home, right?". The signs were there, Landon was not acting like someone who really wanted to go to Brazil (IN MY OPINION!), but I still couldn't believe Jurgen would leave him off. After he did, I thought we should try to move on and give Jurgen credit for knowing his team. In general, coaches get credit when there's a personal issue with just one player. I realize that's harder in this case because Landon is a living legend, but still.
futhermore, I think there were legitimate POSSIBLE explanations around team chemistry (mostly about making it clear to the current starters that this was their team and not wanting to have them looking over their shoulder at the greatest USMNT player of all time on the bench) that people flat-out and unreasonably rejected. I also think the results at least partially back up that explanation in that we clearly were not talented enough with or without Donovan to make a run in this World Cup and got through on determination and team play. In the end, I do think that some individual performances were so lacking that it proved Jurgen's confidence in his team was a little unfounded.

Anyway, that's just the way I see it and we all see what we want to see mostly.

Would be 100% wrong for Landon not to get a testimonial match, by the way. Surely someone will talk to Jurgen about that.

So, apparently Twellman broke the news before Landon wanted. In his press conference, Donovan randomly mentioned how he wanted to tell his teammates first before they found out on twitter and that he was annoyed that someone broke it on twitter first.

Twellman is quickly approaching Chris Broussard territory.

Didn't he say that he wasn't going to talk about it anymore at that media session in L.A.? I think it's fine to be upset still, but you can sidestep questions like that. Now, that may be a quote out of context, but that answer is a little much.

That's always the excuse given for him speaking out about Jurgen.
Whether or not you think his feelings are justified and whether or not you think that people should always be honest even when it does no good for anyone, surely you see that Jurgen doesn't think "he was asked about it" is a very good excuse for Landon publicly calling him out time and time again.

Again, his actions and words since being left off make me more comfortable with the idea that he probably had a lot to do with he and Jurgen's bad relationship and Jurgen's belief the team was better off without him. That's my take on it. Y'all can continue to think that everything Landon does is right.

To just assume that him being on the team would magically create chemistry problems is unreasonable.

I mean shite, look at twitter right now and see all of the love this dude is getting. It's coming from everyone, coaches, former players, USMNT teammates, young american players, etc.

What about Jurgen's remarks that were in stark contrast to what everyone else was saying about Donovan?
