the difference is GOT has a built in fanbase, plenty of storyline to drag out and major international appeal. And it's shot on location in Enlgand where it's much easier to capture period detail. Especially for a show with many exterior locations.

as far as hurricane season ... yes, plenty of films will shoot in the fall, but they are generally features not set in NOLA. They can move to the ATL soundstages. A period piece based in NOLA that shoots half the year mostly outside? Not only hurricanes, but the rain will derail this. Benjamin Button could pull it off because of Pitt, 160 M budget and Fincher.

Well I guess it'd be more practical to sit on the couch and eat potato chips and never try anything at all then.

Who said it had to be filmed in NOLA?

You could build the sets for a period piece such as this further inland. Hell, there's a ton of land just north of BR that would be great for sets.

It's not all going to be outside. Most will probably be inside buildings, as that's where political intrigue normally takes place.

Not a broad appeal factor.

Internationally, New Orleans is intriguing. Nationally, it also is.

There is some mystique about the place that people find intriguing.

Not to mention, the public loves crime shows and bosses.

Lafitte is the original American Gangster. He alone would intrigue people. Tagline:
Before Capone
Before Corleone
Before Soprano...
There was the original American Gangster.

Then you have Marie Laveau. A voodoo queen. She would pique people's interest. Voodoo is mysterious and she goes a long way with the folklore.

You have Bernard de Marigny. He introduced crapoid or craps, to America. He was a huge playboy back in the day.

Quadroon balls. Black slave magnates. French and spanish tensions. A young governor trying to convert the city and it's people into Americans. Pirates.

There's more to get people's attention than what most of the country would consider "hillbillies and racists fighting a war."

Yeah I dont know anything about what it would take to get this done or even if its possible. All I know is if it was a series or miniseries on HBO, I would be a huge fan.

New Orleans circa 1810-1820 was out of control I'm sure. Epidemics, Fires, Hurricanes, Prostitution, Pirates, Duels, the Acadians, etc. Who wouldnt watch that?

Would Nicholas Cage play Andrew Jackson, or Jean Lafitte?
