Oh, trust me, New Orleans from 1807-1815 is a very intriguing time period rife with stories.

Any suggestions on books that cover this time period? INteresting books, not sleep inducing books.

The French Quarter is a good book but it covers the entire history.

Antebellum NO was a fascinating place. It was really the city's golden age -- a unique culture, prosperous, and the only Southern city of any size.

I know of a few novels that take place in that period:

Robert Penn Warren wrote a novel called Band Of Angels. There was a mediocre movie version starring Clark Gable that was shot around BR (supposedly during the filming he often ate at City Cafe in Plaquemine -- does that still exist?)

There was another novel called The Foxes Of Harrow that was filmed with Rex Harrison.

If you're interested in antebellum history check out the books of Paul I Wellman. He wrote about Jim Bowie (The Iron Mistress -- has some chapters set in 1820s NO), Jackson & Houston, as well as western noxels.

If you just can't get enough of 1830 LA check out the 1950s TV show The Adventures Of Jim Bowie. If you can make it past the low budget it's entertaining, in a kiddie matinee sort of way. And how many other shows are there where the hero's home base is Opelousas?

"The Birth of The Blade"

"An Adventure with Audubon"
