How? How is the president focusing on things that ACTUALLY matter detracting from anyone's faith? How is anything disappearing?
He should spend time leading the country, not trying to pander to every religious group while offending none. Just remove that nonsense from the equation. I don't need a fricking president to acknowledge the worth of my beliefs to validate those beliefs.

Hint: Compare Muslim response to Hasan/Ft. Hood with Christian response to Phelps/Westboro.

Link to comprehensive survey that gauged the opinions of the overwhelming majority of the millions of Muslims around the world?
I find it hard to believe that even a few million of them KNOW about it, since so many don't/didn't know about 9/11 for years and years and years.
These are people who don't have newspapers. Books.
But whatever you want. Let the boogeyman get all up in your head.

Really?
No TV either?
Perhaps US Imams are illiterate, deaf, and blind?
Seriously?
Jeeze, who knew!
If they just played pinball, we'd have the beginnings of a Rock Opera.

I'll show you leagues of Christians verbalizing positions attacking Phelps, protesting Westboro, expressing outrage, assisting with actions against him, etc.
You show me the same for Muslims vs Hasan.
Take your time.

I don't protest Westboro or their ilk. Does that mean I support them?

Yes, let's try again.
Does one have to actively and outwardly protest something to actually be against it? It's a very simple fricking question.
Whether or not Muslims in the US outwardly protested is irrelevant. IRRELEVANT. You can't judge millions of people based on an assumption.

But then we are not talking about assumption. We are taking about fact.
So back to a collection of responses amongst those millions to Hasan's actions . . . anything?
Come on. I'm sure you can dig up something . . . Give it a whirl.

Shut it down and got the frick away.

He is a" job creator." Is he not part of the fabric of America simply because he is Muslim?
In addition to condominiums, don't forget, union workers have put in thousands of hours rebuilding the towers. The first time, there was just some repair work. On 9/11 they gave us the opportunity to add two new buildings to the New York skyline.
Thanks to the Muslims we have spent trillions on Homland Security, forever changing the laws on our privacy. Obama has a differnent meaning when he stated, "Eid also reminds us of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy".

He sure spends an inordinate amount of time praising the accomplishment of Muslims, like their contributions to our space program! Very odd.
Not really, Bush, Clinton, daddy Bush and Reagan all said similar things about Islam.
The president who was most critical of muslims? Carter, a devout Christian and critic of Islam who ironically is almost unanimously despised by the religious right.

I had a libertarian buddy send me this today in response to the OP's link:
quote:
So he is correct. Please refer to one of America's earliest treaties, the Treaty of Tripoli 1797. It reads " As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims],—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Mohammedan] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries." So, whether intended or not, this early precept that the US is not a Christian Nation (as was all of Europe), and did not endorse a state religion, is a critical aspect of our Democracy. Students of history know this fact.... The Christian Right tend to ignore this established fact and ratified treaty.

The reason you have similar quotes from both of the Presidents we've had since 9/11 is because they realize that you have to make statements like this to cut down own the number of mouth breathers that think that all Muslims are terrorists.
Ceratinly the majority of Muslims aren't terrorist. However the list is pretty short of those who stand up and try to shout down the terrorists.
I've seen two Muslim women on a crusade to alert folks about the danger of saying nothing. They were quickly shouted down by folks in the media with your attitude.
I believe there is a video showing how the typical American Muslim in Detroit felt about 9/11.
