I duck hunt the west side of joyce around the shite pond area with a pirougue sometimes. Just pull pirougue over the railroad and paddle away

Check the Dec2011 LAsportsman edition. Article with Ricky Hano who has hunted Joyce a long time. Talks about a hunter that went missing and only found his jacket and pirogue... Very good article for hunting Joyce.

Last time i hunted joyce some kids came in at daylight. Set up 60 yds from me and proceeded to stop calling while i worked some birds, then shot them all.

I was very close to leave some kids beat down in the mud that day

I witnessed that. They got pussy bc we finished off a bird they shot we were working. Those kids put about 50 decoys in area not much bigger than Kim k arse would take up.

Trust me, wading anywhere in Joyce sucks arse.

might have just been a "hunting story" he told in the article. it is very vague... "Get lost in this morass of swamp and it could take a long time to be found. I've spent 3 nights in there before, said Hano, who has been hunting the swamp his entire life. Hano said on hunter was less fortunate. About eight years ago, he went in and they never found him. They found his jacket and pirogue, but they never found him."

I've fallen in some holes around the rice fields, and have been lucky to be with other guys.

Once we were hunting off of that slave ditch on Lake Rd. Walked in off of the road, and had to cross a little ditch. You'd think a little bitty 2ft wide ditch wasn't that deep, but nope, up to your neck. About the only thing that didn't get muddy that time was my gun.

When I walk in the marsh, I make it a point to walk lightly. Have been lost out there twice, and it sucks. Once got lost trying to find my way back from hog island and ended up at the lake. Went back to the smaller island, climbed a tree, and saw by buddy's dad's secret marsh camp. Called them and had em come snatch me up. It is a shitty feeling walking around the marsh blindly with chest waders on when it is 90 degrees outside.

I've been lost a handful of times. There is that split second where you think,"Oh frick. This ain't right", and then you just have to get your wits about you and figure out a game plan. I can tell you that I'd rather be lost in the swamp or marsh much more than in the hills like St Francisville or Homochitto. Without a map and compass, I can't navigate that terrain for shite.

you want to get lost...go ride around biloxi marsh for a while without a gps.
No phone service. Hardly any camps for markers. Runouts and bayous everywhere

They have some really big gators on Joyce WMA in some of the more inaccessible areas of that swamp. We took a helicopter over it several years ago and saw one that had to be 15 to 16 feet long.

I guess I am from a different generation but I can't believe we are debating the safety/possibility of WALKING in a marsh/swamp!!!

PEOPLE this is NOT dangerous stuff if you are careful. People have been walking in marshes for hundreds of years without boots, GPS, etc...

Joyce is a neat place with lots of places to get away from people and hunt. Give it a try roughing it and doing something different is fun!
